Lo guys n gals,

Quick insight, I 'used' to build my own pc's but that was like 7-10 years ago lol... my current one i bought from a computers at work ( partially cos it was on hp  ). But now im looking to build a completley fresh one and hopefully have it futureproof for acpl of years at least.

Current setup ( now dont laugh... )

Hp m7200 media edition 3.2 gig
bought a ati x1650 pro like years ago and installed..
installed a cpl more gigs ram.

Its old.. worn out.. and i even have to power it on by touching the two power wires together because the switch broke and i couldnt buy another switch

Looking for a bit of advice on a new one.

Now i was thinking of the below...

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.40GHz
Asus Crosshair III Formula AMD 790FX
XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card ( or possibly the single slot version and looking into crossfire a month or 2 down the line )
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black
Cooler Master GX 650W Power Supply
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 10666C9 1333MHz Triple Channel (CMX6GX3M3A1333C9)

Now i am nooooooooo expert at this as ive not built one in years so please correct me if these dont go at all lol :)

Would this suffice for playing todays games? (crysis would be nice i must admit :) )

Also looked at the ASrock 880g extreme as its got the ability to auto unlock the x4 to a x6 or so ive read?!? is this true, recommended?!?

newer 8** series chipset with SATA and USB3.0, does crossfire at 8X/8X

The 955BE cpu can be made into a 965BE cpu by changing the multiplier in the bios by +1

quality Corsair psu with two 6pin pci-e connectors (one for each 5770)

Yep, no reported cases of current quad's being unlockable to more cores.

BTW that is baffling me. I keep wondering what the heck AMD do with Thuban's with one bad core? Where do all the working 5 core's go?

yeah, i've often thought that, am suprised they dont release them given they release the 3 core chips

Thanks guy's,

The memory thing i would have just stuck triple channel in and not known any wiser lol

Stulid, is there not a certain amount of wattage thats recommended for doing crossfire? im sure i read somewhere that it would be around 600w or something but there again, if this info was reliable or not.

http://en.ocworkbench.com/tech/excl...to-unlock-phenom-ii-x4-and-turn-it-into-a-x6/
this is the article claiming that the x4 could be 'upped' to x6 using the asrock board.

the fact it's posted in april and only 2 comments should tell you, that that tech blog, is utter crap

it's safe to say, it's never been done because it cant be done, no one here has ever posted anything suggesting it's been done, so i wouldnt worry about it

also, ignore what amd suggest about crossfire wattage, two 5770's will happily sip power from a 500w all day without breaking or going without ;)

wow , thanks a lot :) given me a lot of info I would have totally not known here to go on.

I can safely say that this is going to be a huge difference to what im used to and I should be able to play some decent games at decent fps now, as well as convert media much quicker than my ancient set-up at the moment lol

Also looking at your build stulid, brings down the price a bit with added extra included !! :)

Gonna do some tests on this old machine and with the new one once purchased to show what a difference its made!
