Hi guys

Can sum1 explain to me the actually differences between :

DDR-PC2-4200
DDR-PC2-5300
DDR-PC2-6400
DDR-PC2-7200
DDR-PC2-8000
DDR-PC2-8500

do difference mobo's run mem at different max speeds, or do you need to o/c u FSB to get the increased speeds!

DDR-PC2-4200 = 533mhz
DDR-PC2-5300 = 666mhz
DDR-PC2-6400 = 800mhz
DDR-PC2-7200 = 900mhz
DDR-PC2-8000 = 1000mhz
DDR-PC2-8500 = 1066mhz

Most motherboards will let you set your memory speed as a multiple of your fsb speed (eg- x2, x2.5, x3, x3.5, or 1:1, 4:5, 2:3, 1:3, ).

So say you have a Core 2 Duo running at its stock fsb of 266mhz, you could run your memory at 533mhz (x2, 1:1), 666mhz (x2.5, 4:5), 800mhz (x3, 2:3) etc etc.

Changing the fsb will ofcourse change what figure the memory multiplier will run the memory at.

In games it can be quite noticeable in frames per min.

And the higher speed stuff is necessary if overclocking one of the newer Intel cpus.
