NUC connectivity issues

I’m currently running a nuc5PPYH as a Kodi box, connected to the TV via HDMI for video and to my AV receiver via toslink for surround sound.

I’ve just upgraded the tv to a Samsung 4k and discovered the nuc only outputs 4k@ 30fps, and my AV receiver doesn’t support 4k so I can’t plug the NUC directly in the receiver …
So, I’m looking to update the NUC but no recent NUC seem to have an optical audio out or more importantly a consumer RF receiver.

I’m considering a used NUC8i3BEH, which has an HDMI port and a USB-C /DP 1.4 port for dual display, could I use the usb-c port for video to the tv and the HDMI to send audio to the AV receiver? I'd be using windows 10 on the NUC.

I realise a 4k compatible receiver would solve the issue too but would rather not shell out for one when I’ve got my current one set up just as I like it…

Any helpful input welcomed

I had a similar issue with an AV receiver that only has hdmi 1.4, but does support HD audio.

I bought an hdmi switch (Kinivo brand) with Toslink output - so the 4k picture goes direct to the tv and the Toslink plugs into the amp. Obviously, I don't get HD audio using this method, but it's pretty adequate for my needs.

I also needed 4k to my tv with 1080p to my projector, so bought an hdmi splitter by Ezcoo that supports that. As an experiment, I used the hdmi splitter so that one hdmi output goes to the tv for 4k@60 and the other goes to the amp to give HD audio. This worked as well.

No worries! It breathed new life into my existing AV setup too. Seemed absurd to have to upgrade just to support the video resolution.
