Although I remember reading one thing about when a town near Chernobyl (I think anyway) there where people still alive afterwards, pretty much walking around with half they're skin missing, didn't sound at all nice.

I'm with these blokes - the world will be so ******-up for centuries after a full nuclear exchange, combined with the long-term effects of exposure to fallout/radiation on the human body, that I'd rather just get it over with quickly. It's a strange thing to say, but I'm hoping they'd nuke Mildenhall airbase - there's a good chance that Cambridge would probably get hit by the effects of the initial blast - a lot of the figures quoted in this thread are for a 1 megaton weapon and, by all means correct me if I'm wrong, most nuclear nations don't use anything so comparatively 'weedy' nowadays.

Civilisation as we know it will no longer exist and mankind will return pretty much to the Stone Age, fighting, looting and in extreme cases cannibalism - all in the knowledge that if you survived the immediate attack, you'll be dead within weeks/months anyway as your internal organs turn into mush. Months spent living on a hellish vision of the Earth we used to know or a quick death right at the off? I know which option I'd be taking ...

....and after those two weeks? If you weren't completely trapped by rubble and hadn't suffocated/gone mad, you'd emerge to a world of disease, walking wounded (with no hospitals), civil chaos, and endless rubble. If the government survived (it's not like they'd just nuke 1 city for a laugh) there'd be soldiers all over the street shooting looters and taking all the food. You'd be better off topping yourself in there and saving them from having another body to waste fuel burning.
 
The real question is, would the lolcats website still be working? I can't get through 2 weeks without that, I'd die of boredom...

The chances of it are unlikely IMO, they are designed as a deterrant rather than offensive weapon.
 
The likes of Iran/ N Korea maybe, but they wouldn't have enough to launch more than a couple before they were vapourised anyway. Would the y go for the US before the UK though lol.

It always worries me that, What would be a bigger blow, Attacking the US and dinting them severely, Or vaporising out entire country.

I think if i was a crazy extremist state with a nuke, I'd go for wiping out a country to show my power.


Luckily, I'm in Yorkshire, So no doubt a central nuclear strike would wipe me out in the initial blast, So no radiation death for me. Thumbs up right?
 
Surely London would be targetted first to wipe out financial assets etc, then they would have to target each city like B/ham, Mcr could possibly cover Liverpool and Leeds, then theres Newcastle etc etc so they'd need a good few nukes to destroy Britain.

Aiming at london wouldn't be efficient. You'd waste half the radiation and blast on the sea, And the north of england/Scotland could survive it(obviously not in good condition). Where as a central attack would devastate the country completely.

There's no point for these minor nutjob nations to attack a world power with nukes, because it would mean their complete destruction. No matter what the yanks say no one is stupid enough to use a nuke, especially not on "us".

What we have to worry about is some rogue group setting one off, because how can you retaliate?

I don't think any rogue group could set off a nuke. It's not the sort of thing you can hide under your jacket and plant in a litter bin ;)
Dirty bombs maybe, but they're tame in comparison.

so people who are dying can get it over with quickly rather than agonisingly and over time. Lots of people would be beyond saving completely and frankly a waste of other resources like morphine and water on those who might survive.


But personally, I'd get a bunch of random chemicals, some kind of focusing chamber to capture the radiation and massively irradiate a room with me and random chemicals in it and pray that i die instantly, or somehow mutate into some kind of superbeing immune to radiation and with some other cool power.
