Nuggets of knowledge

Virtually all the buttons at pedestrian crossings in NY City don't actually do anything - they're just there as a placebo because people feel that punching them repeatedly makes the lights change faster.

It's also widely believed that the same is true of the "door close" buttons inside elevators - they're just there because it gives people a sense of control. However, it's not true. In the US (at least) it would actually be a fire safety violation if the button didn't work.

On traffic crossings: you may notice little gubbins on the underside of the button unit. This will spin when it is safe to cross the road, visually impaired people use this.

By whom?

You press the button, and the doors close. I never met a single person who thought it was just coincidence.

The most common password in the world is "password"

According to who?

edit: ok I found the source, a list compiled from leaked passwords, but the fact is you are most likely to be on the list if you have a very easy password like this, so it probably overstates the use of such passwords somewhat

Not always

When I first was told that as a kid in the late 90s I tried it out on several local crossing. While they had the metal rod thingy, non of them actually spun when the green man lit up. However I'm not sure if this is still the case today.

An allergy to Brazil nuts can in fact be triggered by having sex with someone who has eaten them up to 1 week before hand!

it's the only known allergy trigger that can be sexually transmitted!

I agree, most complex passwords probably wouldn't be known, but of the cracked, leaked and freely given passwords that one still seems to be top!

Indeed, I can pretty much guarantee it's a pets name. Not a specific password I suppose, but a specific category of password.

I used to use pets name followed by year of birth. I can imagine it's a popular password to use.

I don't use it anymore, I got smarter than that :D :p

A Poliwhirl's spiral on its belly is taken from a tadpoles translucent belly which shows off its intestines. (Pokemon Fact)
