Evening all.

I'm sick of getting the same style of nuisance call, with silence at the other end, and eventually they hang up. Can I lodge a complaint with the police or something to get my line monitored?

I get this a lot. I had one the other day which phoned me 3 times and hung up every time, I tried to return the call but it said number not recognised, I then complained to 'someone' (can't remember name of company) but they couldn't trace them and so just offered to put a blocker for the number on my phone but I said I wouldn't bother. It just makes me so dam angry though, to the point of wanting to rip whoever is calling me head off their shoulders and crapping down their neck.

They are automated I think, if you pick up then your number is sold off to telephone sales companies? Bit of a stab in the dark but I do remember reading it somewhere :p

I've just had a poke around on the BT site and subsequently registered with Silent Callguard and the Telephone Preference Service. Have to see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Usually silent calls are generated when a call centre dialler dials your number and you answer but no agent is available to take over the call. Call centres get penalised for this though.
