What was the best site to check whether an old car still exists? There seems to be loads now that want to charge but I remember one someone mentioned on here and it just popped up if it was scrapped or still in existence?

If you know the make of the car as well as the registration then it will tell you if it's taxed or on sorn.

nice to know my old wrecked MK1 Cortina was used for another 5 years after I scrapped it!

Yes, according to that direct.gov.uk link, my old '94 Yamaha Jog moped is still down as unlicensed from when I sold it to a bike shop in 2003. With the tax disc expiry date being the tax that I put on it shortly before selling it.

is the one that you might be thinking of. That shows if its insured.

I was confused to see the DVLA had registration EDE 23C that I scrapped in 2002 as liable for 2007....

Some online tyre, bulb and wiper suppliers use number plates to find the correct part. Presumably they are searching DVLA and other databases.
