Number porting

I have no good words for talk mobile in all honesty and yes - their policy is this. I suspect it's because they have basically done an MVMO on the cheap and have no additional services.

# Contact your current network provider and ask for a PAC (porting authorisation code). Ensure that your current network provider does not disconnect the number that you wish to port.
# Once you have received your PAC, ensure that you provide this, together with your mobile number when you purchase your Talkmobile package from any Carphone Warehouse store, over the phone with our direct sales team, or online at Talkmobile.co.uk.
IMPORTANT: You must provide these details at the time of purchase otherwise we will be unable to port your number after the sale has completed.

Which is great - because thats all you really want, right? Access to a decent, solid network - Vodafone - without the high prices that go with it for a load of frills you don't want.

Interesting that GIffGaff don't do the same thing? I activated my sim 6 weeks before I ported my number to them. Although they are PAYG and not fixed term, which may make a difference.

I've been with Orange since the company began (well, since before then, when they were Rabbit) but their poor data performance has become more than I can bare.

I've tested most networks and will probably move to 3 on a PAYG sim (which is currently in my phone).

I have 14 months of my Orange contract left but I'm happy to keep that SIM in my backup phone.

This leads me to a few questions -

1. Can I still get a PAC code while under contract?

2. What happens to my Orange SIM? Will they give me another number?

3. If things go **** up with 3, I assume I could get a PAC from them and move my number back to Orange (or more likely GiffGaff)?

4. Failing all this, can I forward calls and texts from my Orange phone for a month or so (or to the end of the contract) so I can go about my day with just my 3 sim?

Thanks for any help :)

1. No. you will need to pay the contract off completely for the pac number

2. Orange sim will disconnect once PAC number has been used

3. Yep you sure could.

4. I honestly don't know, you could ring and ask orange.
