Can anyone clarify these for me?

Are you allowed to get numberplates printed for a car for which you are not the registered keeper, provided you have a copy of the V5 and some identification?

I managed without issue last time I went but this time they refused

I had my V5, my Dads V5 (Showing the same address!!) and my drivers license - not good enough

I prefer main dealer plates. Just looks smarter. Just having to replace one on the back of the 530d that delaminated after 5 years :p

Mine is a stick on one which I got printed. Never had a problem with MOTs or the Police in 3 years....probably because it doesn't have stupid lettering, is spaced correctly, is properly reflective and is in the right place, just happens to be stuck on.

I want a new pair made up with the GB & EU stars on for driving to France in September and I've found a place on line that will do them How can places like that issue plates without seeing your documentation?

Because they don't confrm to the V5 policy, you'll probably find there is a disclaimer on the site stating they are for off road or show use only. They will be identical to the ones bought in the other.

What way are they different? Made of different plastic?

this is one of the things i purposely do with all my cars - remove all the branding the dealers put on. Stickers in the windows, adverts on the plates etc..

For no other reason that it annoys me and i see it as free advertising. My local motor spares place has their logo so small, you have to really look for it, but its still got the supplying name and postcode on it, so is BSAU compliant.

Tah-dah. Even let you put your own slogan so you can write Sytners or whatever at the bottom.

From the site:

Disclaimer
Any plates ordered through our website are sold as show plates and are for off road use only. If you chose to buy a plate that resembles a legal plate and subsequently use this on your vehicle we can accept no responsibility for this in any way or form. The term legal on the website describes the item, it does not mean the plates will be legal if that item is used, For example Legal Standard Font is the font used on legal plates. For plates that meet the legal requirement in terms of spacing and look we will not place our name and postcode on them unless you type No1showplates as the slogan - if you don't do this we will not put our name and postcode on the plates.

The company name kind of gives it away though?

edit. I'm too slow :(

Need to be 100% legal. Not after anything flash - just a standard, clean EU plate which I'll stick on with pads rather than have drilled on. The supplying dealer charges only £9 a plate so it seemed reasonable. They said if i came back with the registered keepers driving license it would be fine, yea because that makes all the difference doesn't it
