Numberplate printing rules

I've been thinking of a set of them for my Saxo, but the "Documents being sent in post or by hand" puts me off as sending them seems to risky (nearest agent is 31miles away). No way they or a similar company can be emailed a scan of them?

EDIT: Surely that means that NO online plates can be legal then as they need to see the physical documents?

You can scan and email them.

Saxperience are doing just that on a Group Buy that I missed. :(

It should be in the options at the checkout.

Maybe ring them before hand just to clear everything with them?

Ah right, thanks. Yea I missed the Group Buy too, don't go on Saxperience much tbh.

Though from reading the thread it looks like 45 people said they wanted them and only 13 actually paid , once again showing just how much hassle group buys are!

Never had a problem getting my 53 plate car MOT'd. Plates are completely legal in terms of layout, font etc - just ordered online and missing the company name & BS stamp.

I'm sure a lot of people get away with it, I'd rather not take the risk personally and fail the MOT on something so stupid when it takes little or no extra effort to have legal plates.

I think you asked a jobsworth.

As far as I am aware there is no legal bar to having plates printed for a car that is not yours as long as the V5 is handy for the to check.

Yes there is. My mechanic has to pay a fee to be registered with his local place to be allowed to have plates made for cars in for service etc. He didn't realise this until he tried to get a front plate made for my 900 (had the necessary documents) and the shop refused.

Mine have been through 2 MOT's without the BSAU markings.

From your signature I assume you drive a Mk2 Golf

MOT testers manual states that the check for the silly markings is only done on cars first registered on or after March 2001

The law states that the new requirements (new font, supplier name, postcode etc.) apply to all plates fitted after March 2001

So in theory if you change your plates you must comply with the new laws, but as the MOT testers have no way of knowing when you changed your plates older cars can get away with less strict plates.

Likewise Fox's BMW which IIRC is an S reg could get away with brandless plates if he wanted, but Fox prefers to have a BMW logo and an advert on his plates.

My car is not an S reg. It is a facelift E39, it has a private reg which begins S. My car is post Sep 01, therefore I have to conform to the newer rules.

His isn't an S reg at all, it's a 51 plate IIRC.

EDIT: oh, beaten by a long way. ;)

Sorry, I thought you were anti-private-plate, so edited out the "(unless it's a private plate)" when proof-reading the post.

I got my plates online didnt ask to see anything. But only after delivery I realised they are show plates for off road use only. But heres the thing, it has the BS marking in the bottom right, plates are legal size and legal font, so will I be road legal regardless? Car was made in 2004.

Strictly speaking, if they don't also have the suppliers name and postcode then no.

I doubt anyone will notice though. They mainly brought all this in because these days they rely on numberplate recognition cameras instead of proper police, so the people with silly fonts and/or false plates were getting away with stuff.

Suprised to hear that people have actually failed on the number plates MOT wise. None of the garages round here seem to care in the slightest, I checked this morning and the Jeep went through and it does not have the markings (it's a post 01 car).

Admittedly this was the same MOT place where the Mini passed emissions without being able to start... :p
