Numpty moment & 4K telly question

Firstly, I'm not a TV whiz kid and have put up with a 24" LED TV since 2012, in quite a large room. Finally decided now's a good time to upgrade so while sick today(ear issues) I popped into Curry's and did some retail therapy.
So, I picked up a new 43" 4k Sony TV. On using it I noticed a boomy sound. Deep voices and deep/bass sound seemed to cause a boom/kind of vibration. So, as I need to be away the rest of the week I returned the TV moaning like heck to myself as I hate carrying heavy/fragile stuff around (back issues). Anyway, managed to get the TV back before they shut and was issued a replacement only the new one does exactly the same thing. Is it normal? Am I just used to the old TV that I've tuned into something normal but thought it was a fault? The TV is on the floor at the moment but the boom definitely comes from the speakers. Feel a right idiot! Was rushing to get it back to them too as wanted to get it sorted so it wouldn't be something I'd have to do at the weekend.

On another note, Curry's tried to sell me a 4k aerial cable. Think they also mentioned about buying a 4k aerial too but erm, slightly deaf at the moment. I declined the aerial cable as I've found in the past their prices for accessories can be very high but as a non-TV geek as far as I know there are no 4k digital aerial broadcasts yet? The TV does have YouView but don't think that's 4K either?(will search on this later). I also didn't pick up a 4K HDMI either as I don't have any other equipment either yet that handles 4k, only a freeview recorder (non-4K) so will get one of those if I need one later, I just intend for no to stream 4K when available on Netflix and the like.

A 4K aerial cable! The great cable scam continues.

A TV's speakers shouldn't be boomy. As the TV is sitting out on the floor and not in a tight space that might cause vibrations, it sounds more like you have just become used to the weak output from your previous set rather than the new set having anything wrong with it.

Hi

Have you tried adjusting the sound settings to see if you can reduce this boom sound ? don't fall for the curry's 4k cables scam they have been doing it for years with there £90 HDMI cables.. in fact don't buy any cables from them.

Not had time to adjust the settings yet. Had it on for a while last night and kinda got used to it so maybe it is due to the weak speakers on the last TV .Still a bit odd though to be so noticeable. Hopefully when I can hear properly in a few days I can tell for sure but doubt there would be two with the exact same issue.
Yeah, regarding the cables, I bought a TV for my parents some years back from Curry's and tried to sell me a HDMI cable for a dce60. Got one off of Amazon to the latest version at the time for less than a fiver.

What on earth is a 4K aerial + cable?? Is that even a thing?? If it is, I'm not sure why they would think you'd need it?

4k Aerial cable?!

Sky Engineer who came and installed SkyQ used the same cable we had installed with the dish that supplied SD content and later Full HD content.

If copper cable somehow needs higher 'bandwidth' to receive 4k well I'll be blowed as he certainly didnt change the Coax/Aerial cable :D.

Curry's typically employ people with no technical knowledge whatsoever so that they can instill upsell techniques. They'd sell a Granny a 2k laptop for her to Skype their family and say something along the lines of the processing power will make the video smoother or some hilarious B/S in order to get the sale.

Our Sony 40" (about seven years old) has awful sound from the built-in speakers — Stephen Fry's voice rattles the plastic surround when watching QI.

Quickly got a 2.1 setup to run the sound through instead.

Seems like Sony still haven't solved their audio issues seven years later…

I'm guessing it might be down to your ear issues Darren , im going to google 4k aerial cable lol
Hopefully. Put the TV on again this morning and still hear it there.
Yeah, whatever it was they said if I bought one with the TV they give £10 off, so expect it must have be £30+. Should have had a look at it just out of curiosity.

I was thinking I may just do that if I put the TV on a table and it still doesn't sound right.
Couple of reviews I saw mentioned good sound so I dunno :).
Always had Samsung TV's in the past but after finding the best Laptop I've had to date for robustness is a Sony I decided to give their TV's a try. Nice quality looking unit at least.

I forgot i had this' they gave it me when i got my tv from them i was like lol inside :D

i upset a salesman in currys other day when trying to sell someone a 100 quid hdmi cable for their oled tv

They still try that? They nearly got my folks when they went for a new TV and Soundbar, oh we'll do you a deal on 3 new HDMI cables @ £100 until I advised them.

The only Youview box that handles UHD (4k) is the BT UHD Youview box but you need a BT TV sub and it only has one 4k Sports channel.

UHD has been available on Netflix for some time it just depends on whether your device's Netflix app has been updated to allow it.

yeah he said oled tvs "needed" cables like this

There must be some sort of law against this? It's tantamount to robbery if people fall for it. Talk about abusing your position. Obviously most of us know on here that it's BS, but plenty of people will (and do) fall for it. Terrible really.

Did they offer you some snake oil for the contacts too?

My past two Sony TVs have had passable sound, like no rattling weird sound tone I always associate with CRTs. Difficult to know what you mean by booming, I think it might be your ears :)

well that is fraud. i would have tried to record that on my phone then tell them I'm going to watchdog and newspapers, as well as retailer regulators.

didn't have my phone on my I had left it in the car at the time, I just gave him the mofo look and pointed out in front of him that you didn't need them cables as it was a digital signal and most hdmi of correct spec will do then said the tv they was looking at was cheaper elsewhere

with ever increasing desire for super thin TVs (even when its sat on a stand 10 inches from the wall) with tiny Bezels, there becomes nowhere to put any decent sized speakers. The result is a tiny speaker pointing at the floor. This is fine if you want to connect to a hifi or an AV amp (which i'd highly recommend), but if you dont want that, your left with poor sound.

those currys salesmen should be ashamed of themselves, although they possibly dont know that there is no such thing as a 4k aerial cable either. which then makes them largely useless.

consider getting a hifi or an AV amp. to vastly improve the sound of your new TV. the overall TV experience will be very much improved.
