ok after going round the ring on sunday, ive decided to get a car for it, went round in a mates mini (he also posts here) its a copper 06 plate, it was fast enough on the twisties but hit a hill and it dies, maby my drivng style.

ive looked at pug 205 gti's, but seem pricy still
saxo vts, maby a good option
corsa gsi, not sure not as nice as a saxo
want somthing small and quick, which dosnt need much doing to the engine, has to be road legal, budget around 3k
any ideas welcome.

Problem is you need to get the car there, 500 miles each way in a Corsa of a weekend? No thanks.

Something bigger would be a good idea.

stripped out E30 BMW 325 ;)

I'm thinking this is the way forward, lots of big hills and longish straights on the Ring, you want something with top end power, 106 GTi's and the like are designed for tight twisty roads..

If you look hard enough you could get a mk2 saxo vts with cams, manifold, induction and remap and perhaps some suspension mods for your budget. ~9 minute ring time ahoy.

If you are going to strip it and use it as a toy as long as its mechanically sound it doesnt matter surely?

i live in germany and they will not insure you whilst on the track, looked into it already.
A friend of mine does it all the time, handing the cars back with no tyres/brakes and not hearing anything from the hire company. I will get more details if you like.

The Nurburgring is largely a power circuit, I think that a Saxo or 205 might be left a touch breathless on the fast sections unless you plan to take it easy on those and cane it through the tighter sections.

Can you get Nissan 200SX's on the continent?

but will i get a decent one for 3k,i cant see it, it has be reliable i dont want a money pit, only want to have to pay for new tyres, and bmw spares are not cheep, bangs and scratches i wont worry about its the "hg" and stuff i worry about. Also breaks upgrades must be cheeper for french car?

A la. Lovely 16 valve 130bhp motors, excellent cars. Real drivers machines! :)

325's are good but the petrol costs could cripple you if you were driving there and back. Few hundred quid for fuel. Each way. (probably :D )

well just been on autotrader ill take what i say about the bmw, erm looking on german sites now. i wonder how much weight it can lose with all the leather gone and all the other crap.

318 will be a bit slow surely, going to top out at what 120-130 and have to sit at max speed for a good bit of the track?
