Nurburgring's New Fire Engine ...

Depends how big the fire is, if my kinder egg spontaneously combusted i might call these guys out, if my minibus caught fire i wouldn't rate my odds so much.

The idea is to get to the incident as quick as possible to stop or slow the progress of fire. If there's a pile up then you want something like this to stop the fire progressing until the big trucks arrive. Big trucks + kesslechen (ics) results in a slow response time.

I'd have thought the car would have been detuned to save the running costs. Even in a detuned state it would do the job!

Rofl, we all know the purpose of it and that its rapid response but you have to ask the question, even at half way round the lap at worst case its going to take around 3mins 30 seconds to get round to the fire how much can it actually help save someones life, if the guy is stuck in the car without fire protective gear on you're dead very very quickly.

As for being detuned, nope, saving running costs and the Nurburgring? Yea right.

Hmmmm. So say there was an emergency just before the end straight, the car would have to go ALL the way round the track to get to the scene of the emergency. Would it not be better to put 4 or more locations scattered around the circuit and have some sort of rescue vehicle dotted at these locations to save those valuable minutes?

But then you have to have men on the points which costs money but if it's in the interest of safety then it should be a viable option.

I'm pretty sure I've seen different routes to cut out part of the tracks that presumably get used for stuff like this?

I dunno how much fires are a problem but maybe they will use this to patrol the circuit and therefore need something that isn't going to compromise other ring users.
