Better 3dmark scores then the GeForce 7950 GT & x1950pro

But lower FPS in most of them games tests then the GeForce 7950 GT & x1950pro ....

Could be the 128Bit memory bus holding it back, but for 79xx or X19xx owners it looks like an 8800GTS is the better choice of card

and this is suppose to be overclocked, I hate to think what a Stocked card will run regardless if it runs cooler & it's dx10 compatible.

Mind you, a pair of these in SLI may be a viable option, possibly faster than the 8800GTS, depends on the price i guess.

Our card came overclocked by default to 745MHz for the core and 2290MHz DDR for its 1.0ns Samsung DDR3 memory modules.

I like to get my 8800gtx up to them overclock speeds...

looks like nvidia havent made a card to compete against the pro/xt even when overclocked
i knew the 128bit mem bus would hold it back

if its cheapo enough then people who currently use geforce 6 series and 7600 series cards can get a nice boost in speed going to 8600.

don;t just think that becuase its got a 128bit memory interface that its going to be slow. i can name you cards that have 128bit memory interfaces that beat 256bit interface cards.

7600gt vs 6800ultra for one example. and 6800ultra has nearly double the memory bandwidth of the 7600gt.

as card generations get newer thier efficiency also rises so the demand for memory bandwidth drops. although there is a point where memory bandwidth becomes the limiting factor and not the fillrate.

the 8600 is more than likley targetted for users that have displays up to 1280x1024 and less./

It gets panned by an X1950Pro, the memory interface is obviously retarding it.

i think it is the memory bus as its has a good amount of Stream Processors
and core speed, the moemory is blistering fast 2ghz :eek:

so the memory bus is the only other thing slowing it down

Its also the one i was intersted in as well as it was meant to have 512Mb RAM.

Looks like 8800GTS for me in a month or so when prices have come down a bit more.

Its definately the mem bus tbh!

Thats the one bad part about the card and clearly its a defining point, it just isnt big enough to handle everything going on and therefore suffers!

@ £100 they will be good cards but for gaming they aint as fast at the others around its price range unfortunately

Ouch what a heap of crap that is, what happened to the 7900 GTX performance, it gets obliterated by the x1950pro!!!.

This bit made me laugh :-

No it isn't Nvidia cant do drivers, so those beta's, get ******* used to em as u wont get anymore drivers.

I was going to post this point.

I think it's criminal that either company put a 128-bit bus on any card they release these days (except maybe the 8200/X2200 series).

I really wanted one of these cards as well, but i'm not taking that much of a performance hit, will have to hope that the red team come up with something special in the X2600 range.
