Ouch what a heap of crap that is, what happened to the 7900 GTX performance, it gets obliterated by the x1950pro!!!. :D

This bit made me laugh :-

'It is early days yet, with the GeForce 8600 GTS running on beta ForceWare drivers.'

No it isn't Nvidia cant do drivers, so those beta's, get ******* used to em as u wont get anymore drivers. :D :D

LOL, i enjoy reading your nvidia rants :D

I now feel very glad i brought a 1950pro Ultimate instead of waiting to see what an 8600GTS was like.
But even on preview specs on wikipedia seems it gets beaten by a 1950pro

Yeah its true though aint it, 5+ months on since launch and what are the best drivers for the 8800's, ******* betas, you couldn't make it up!!!. :D

Can't see how the 8600 range etc... are going to be any different, if they aint going to bother with drivers for their top end 8 series, the mid/low range aint gona get any, simple as that.

Chances of them doing that are pretty much nil though, aren't they? :D

yeah so dont bother buying it then.. as someone said 8800 drivers are still crap even the newest ones so the lower end ones will be the same unless they get lucky making them

That's why im considering buying a cheap gfx card to tie me over for a few months - Whats a 7600GT/GS compare in performance w/ a x1950 pro ?

I think the 8600 will pack a punch when clocked.

I think we have seen it when it gets overclocked, frankly speaking if the card retails sub £130-150, then you can pickup a x1950 pro 256 approx. £130inc. vat, which I would rather go for.

Or wait it out for a few more months & buy something better.

well what a disapiontment i was going to upgrade to this from my 7600GT, im limited on space with my case so hopefully ATI are going to bringout somthing better than this poor attempt.

Those results are a bit odd. For past nvidia midrange releases we have observed the following:

6600GT > 5950Ultra/9800XT
7600GT > 6800Ultra/X850XT

Yet 8800GTS can't even compete with an X1950Pro let alone an 7900GTX/X1950XTX which is what its supposed to do.

Also the specs are equivalent to the following:

745mhz Core/1150mhz DDR3 Mem
256bit bus
64 shaders
256mb

Thats just 300mhz less than my X1900XT memory clocks, which can't possibly make that much difference. I reckon its either a driver issue or those shaders have been crippled in some way.
