NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

I have not read up all the specs yet. Is the gap between these cards greater than the 4080 - 4090? That was quite a significant difference which based on the launch pricing actually made the 4080 poor value.
The chip spec for the 5080 is basically a 5090 cut in half. What that also means is that previous 3 generations the 4070, 3070, 2070 were the cards that were basically their 90s cut in half and the 80 series sat between them. So really the 5080 is still missing if you look at it this way and all the other cards got a price increase still compared if you tweak accordingly then.

5080 = 5070Ti
5070Ti = 5070
5070 = 5060

That kinda also solidifies the Vram if you take into account the 12GB would be 5060 and the two 5070's then 16GB. And would leave the space for the true 5080 (will be 5080Ti or whatever) at the £1500 ish mark and the 24GB Vram you would want tbh.

I think that’s a fair assessment of where we’re at right now, last gen they did a large shift around of the tiers and bumped up pricing so now this gen they have solidified that and dropped pricing a little, price to performance in reviews will be compared to the horrible 40 series launch prices so each card will deliver +20% or more except maybe the 90 which has gone from best value to worst but that’s ok as the flagship shouldn’t be the best value.

The upgrade from a 4000 series doesnt feel that great after the announcement now

Who wants AI and frame-gen over raw performance, there should be a balance of both which the 5000 series dont appear to have much

Playing online FPS for example you dont want all this AI rubbish and upgrading my 4080 to 5080 is going to get me a few FPS more ? The 16GB is the same, which I feel the 5080 should have been 24GB

Feels like an upscale to 5090 and how much better is that compared to 4090 in raw performance.

I find the new cards slightly odd. I can see the gap between 5080 and 5090 allowing for TI cards and more

But know left wondering if the upgrade from 4080 to 5080 for 20% increase which is mostly AI driven is anything to shout about

I'm in need of a GPU this month as I'm currently borrowing one. The 5070ti seems like a good shout. Would have gone for the the 5080 but the vram concerns me. Will wait for benchmarks and go from there. One thing is for sure, I'll be getting a FE card as I dread to think the AIB card prices.

i am pretty sure there were a few models from different AIB vendors close to rrp on the 4090 launch. i would suspect the same again tbh.

For everyone getting too excited and hyped up about these new cards. On the plus side, the size of the cards is great, finally normal sized GPUs.
Just keep in mind that Nvidia are doing the typical nonsense of not talking about raw performance and using framegen to cover up true performance.
This should be common sense, but Jensen's claim of a 5070 getting close to a 4090 is a load of nonsense. Plus it's still half the VRAM.
Most likely he probably meant with DLSS4 multi-frame gen fake frames a 5070 can get close to a regular 4090 without DLSS.

And a video of DLSS4 was taken down, which showed a lot of artifcating and issues on those generated fake frames.
AI is still AI quality, not a replacement for real things, just a terrible imitation.
The low VRAM is still a let down. AMD could potentially have an opportunity depending on how they price their 9070XT.
Given the 5070's price, a 9070XT shouldn't be more than £450 or even £400.
But first they need to just turn up to the damn race for a start.

My bet, it's probably not worth going for one of these Nvidia GPUs at release.
If they have potential Supers on the horizon, with more VRAM, they could be worthwhile.
Otherwise, I'll hold my judgement till I see genuine benchmarks in reviews.

Long story short: wait for impartial reviews for the actual performance numbers.
Given the decent pricing, my bet is that the actual true performance increase is closer to 20% for each tier.

People said last Gen 4090 rasterisation must be hiding something because of the slides nvidia chose to show. It all worked out in the end and the uplift was very good. I wouldn't worry... at least on the top end.

I mean with the history of melty melty is the power going to a 5090 not a, well, concern?

Not a fan of comparing anything using different criteria. You may as well say my car is twice as fast as yours (my car measured using round tyres, yours using square tyres).

what the hell? When Jensen was holding it on stage it looked tiny compared with the 4090!

He wasn't holding a Suprim.

That size also wouldn't fit in my O11D Evo so there is zero chance I'd be buying a new case for a new GPU unless I was upgrading to a new platform at the same time. Though I do have a horizontal bracket which is taking up room. If it was mounted the normal way I think it would, but I can't do that as there is no room for a support bracket thingy due to my bottom fans.

Too lazy to look this up, what HDMI and DP standards do the cards use? Any USB-C / Thunderbolt?

Edit - answer my own question - 2.1b for both standards. Can't see any mention of USB-C.

Haven't heard of any issues since they switched to the 12V-2x6 connector.
