NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

Realistically, if you're on a 20 or 30 series card then upgrading to 50 series is a good idea, if you're on a 40 series then it really doesn't make much sense unless you absolutely have to have the latest and greatest.

I'm definitely keeping a beady eye out for any decently priced 4090s coming up on the second hand market... Hoping the 5070=4090 slide convices a few into selling.

A 4090 + lossless scaling FGx4 is basically a 5080ti.

Yes. DLSS 4 is coming to the 4000 series. Just not MFG which is exclusive to the 5000 and which is the thing that allows them to increase performance so drastically when using RTX features.

Talked myself out of a 5090 now, I think if the uplift in raw performance on a 5080/5070ti is decent compared to last gen when the independent reviews/benchmarks arrive then I will opt for one of them and stick the money saved to one side as a head start for something else a few years down the line, by then I could even drop in a cheap replacement for the 7800X3D if needed for a little bump as well.

So this month my ultrawide screen broke after an accident knock while trying to fix a nephews desktop and I replaced it with a 240 HZ 4K OLED. Due to this I have to upgrade from my 3080 to a 5090 only to realise that my PSU didn't have enough oomph so I ordered a new 1200 W PSU. Then it occured to me if I'm going for a 5090 I should upgrade my 5800X to a 9900X3d so I've ordered that with 64 GB 6000 DDR5. It's ended up an expensive month but at least my case and fans are okay, the 5090 isn't that big...right?

Why do people think 7 ms isn't bad, it is

You don't play a game for 1 second.

If you play visual novels then sure it won't matter.

...

7 milliseconds is 7% of 1 second in this context. In the video thumbnail, 50.97ms is half a second.

//Edit lol excuse me I just re-read your comment and now understand what you mean! Apologies.

DF showed that latency was not drastically increased with MFG at 4x.

Doesn't need to drastically increase it, if it stays the same it means it feels as though you're playing at the lower frame rate, which is exactly what the hub post says.
The fact it makes it worse at all means if feels like it's running slower, even though the little number in the corner of the screen is higher.

7 MS is 0.7% of a second.
50.97 MS is 5% of a second.

Lets put it this way...

When I was playing Black Myth Wukong at 4k with the DF optimized (more or less max) settings the game played but I was getting hitches.

I already had DLSS 3.5 on and FG.

So add 7ms of latency and increase my frames by 100 (or more) then that sounds like a good compromise.

That's what DF said in their video above.

The latency penalty seemed like a good deal for the amount of fps you was getting in exchange.
