The announcement goggle will wear off soon enough for more folks, hopefully before they do something drastic

Am I an idiot for thinking i could just walk into a shop, hand it over, and leave with £1k? I guess so.Yes, whenever I've had any dealings with them I've usually received payment within a couple of working days by bank transfer.
I’ve done this today they test it after you leave and call you if there’s any issues. I handed mine over at 1pm today and had an email by 430pm that it was all good and the money will be bank transferred which should be in my account by tomorrow!Am I an idiot for thinking i could just walk into a shop, hand it over, and leave with £1k? That won't happen. They will want to test the item first to make sure it functions properly. How quickly that happens depends on how busy they are, but usually it's within a day or two.Am I an idiot for thinking i could just walk into a shop, hand it over, and leave with £1k? I guess so.
A 1600 quid 4090 bought two years ago is now looking like a great investment. Two years worth of usage thus far and will probably hold almost all of its value for at least another year at this rate.
The other thing is that if they were really that good, NVidia would've rubbed it all over our faces on their presentation but they only focused on MFG and AI, mentioning little to nothing about new fancy things. Ergo, real-life speedups will likely be too small to put on big PR poster - good to have, nothing ground breaking. That's my take from their behaviour so far, at least. The problem with everything you just mentioned and the 10 other things Nvidia introduced is that they require RTX5000 hardware to operate and games to be built for said RTX 5000 hardware.
These new features in theory sound so cool, until you find out that they don't do anything if the game you're playing wasn't built to use these features. You're paying a premium for features which will have little to no adoption.. by the time RTX6000 is launched, there might be a dozen games that use one or more of these new features
Yeah its a shame, but nvidia clearly knew what they were doing with this pricing.This. There's a gigantic gap between the 5080 and 5090 now. The 5090 is too expensive and probably overkill for most and the 5080 is...too expensive full stop. It's pretty much an upsell strategy at this point, mainly because of the lack of VRAM for the price.
Those of us who were hoping they might be able to pick up a heavily discounted 4090 are between a rock and a hard place.
1080ti and 4090 are the only times I've splashed out on the most expensive gpus. Both made sence to me.As I said earlier, in years to come the 4090 will be regarded like the 1080Ti was.
I got 1080Ti quite a bit later, second hand - still lasted me few years more and sold well afterwards anyway (I actually gained monies on that very old GPU by then!). I am skipping 5k series all together, but I might be tempted to try 9k from AMD, as it so far shapes to be a very good one for the price and I am curious to see what improvement they did with RT etc.1080ti and 4090 are the only times I've splashed out on the most expensive gpus. That uses 125w less don't forget lol.No one with any sense is going to sell 4090 for £500, once the dust settles it’ll still be the 2nd fastest card on the market.
I was kinda petrified at the time i bought it. Made the purchase when I randomly saw the FE in stock, and asked myself questions after. It's been a glorious 2 years, I must say.A 1600 quid 4090 bought two years ago is now looking like a great investment. It is, I did run it at 80% for a few months for testing until until I realised the crappy Inno paste had all pumped out after 2 months and stripped it down to slap some PTM on the die and been right as rain since 2 years later lol just never bothered undervolting again since because it runs way cooler with the PTM even at going flat out haha. The 4090 is a beastly undervolter; you can cap its power draw down to 350w and lose no performance, then its 225w less than the 5090. We'll see if the 5090 can also undervolt, I hope so
Ironically if you undervolt a 4090 down to 350w, its 1) using less power than a stock RTX5080 and 2) its still faster than a RTX5080 That tells you all you need to know about Blackwell doesn't it

We will apparently be able to switch between the two models in the Nvidia app. That will make for some interesting comparison videos I'm sure.
Here are some early visual benefits of DLSS 4's Transformer Model

Would have made the 5090 a tough sell at 2000 quid though.5080 should have been really called 5070Ti and priced £749.
The real 5080 should have been a good 20% faster with 24GB for £999.
Then nvidia would have been getting applause rather than the current reception online.
