NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

Do we think the 5080s gonna be as bad a heat monster? It's a shame some of the heat doesn't exit the case like 3000 and 4000 isn't it? All that hot air going straight into my CPU rad :(

all we need to do is remove the $ and replace with £ and there you have it, UK prices

A reason to pause for those who think reviewers should be leaning in to the multi-frame gen feature with the 5000 series cards when assessing their performance. This is from an ultrawide benchmarker three months ago:

Sounds like NVidia will need multi-frame gen just to leap frog AMDs FSR frame gen as it stands in the current x2 category.

Unless people are arguing with any seriousness that DLSS frame gen looks noticeably better than FSR frame gen at the moment.

Someone here earlier mentioned some reviewer noticed big drop in FPS with 4090 in CP2077 between old and new DLSS model - I just checked it myself in 1440p UW, drop is negligible. DLSS Quality (no FG) old model 95FPS, new model 93FPS. With FG it's 153FPS (old model) vs 151FPS (new model). Quality is better in many places, but not everywhere - on some (on the road and not only) textures moiré is horrible both with old and new DLSS models in movement, though on new one it looks bit better when up close, yet from the distance just as bad on both. :) In 4k likely much better.
I think they were also using Raytracing?

According to this review, the FE has really loud coil whine. Along with the loud fans and high memory temps, I'd much rather go with the ugllier but more efficient AIB models. Unfortunately, it seems like all the AIBs will have ridiculous price uplifts, even for the base models.

looking at these prices I dont think these will shift as the 40 series, these are shock n awe prices

selling your 4090 to get a 5090 and your gonna have to add between £1000 to £1400

So I've seen a couple of places say reviewers were asked to test on 240mhz monitors and apparently the gains are not as good on screens with refresh rates lower than this. I have no idea why this would be.

For 4X MFG you still need a good base rate of at least 60fps so a 240Hz monitor is the minimum needed. If you only have a 180Hz monitor then the 4X MFG would be using a base rate of 45fps which will not feel that good at all. Lower refresh rate monitors will use even lower base rates unless you use 2X or 3X frame gen.

Yeah, for the cost that it will take to upgrade from a 4090 to a 5090, you could easily get a 4k 42 inch OLED TV or any of the current top end OLED monitors. For most, that would do more for the gaming experience than jumping to a 5090.

Well one is AI tensor core frame gen attempting to create new frames (to varying degrees of success), whilst other other is just interpolation.

Why do you think AMD have now jumped on Ai based FSR? Repeating frames is very easy, but genuinely adding visual smoothness and quality of very different.

What do you think is really happening here with no special frame generation architecture?

???

If that were true you wouldn’t see such deviation between framerates across generations at 1440p, especially for raytracing.

Even 1080p shows deviations in some games. At any rate the absolute majority of gamers are in 1080p so these graphs are relevant to, well, almost everyone.

Except the majority of people looking to buy a 5090 will not be using it at 1080P, hence 1080P graphs are pretty irrelevant in this instance, no?

The 4090 was marketed as a 4K card, the 5090 is no different, IMO.

I’m not sure I’ve seen this clarified: will the 40 series cards also be getting the new version of frame gen albeit locked to x2? Or will they be getting DLSS4 upscaling only with the older version of frame gen?

For 4K gaming, 5090 seems to be a pretty good upgrade especially for people who hate upscaling.

For 4K/120, 4090 already has to be upscaled from at least 1440P for many of the more demanding games. 5090 is much closer to hitting 4K/120 at native.
