NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

It would seem that is the case. Brut force increase power required to get higher performance.
Is if this is the case GPU manufacturing needs to have a serious shake up to get this under control.

Maybe in the future we buy a GPU with its fake frame performance the selling point. Buy this GPU for 4K and get 1000 fake frames instead.
meh while completley generated frames are still very much in infancy they ain't terrible the super resolution which use to be derided as terrible is now getting pretty good

GUYS AND GIRLS!

nvidia should cancel the whole launch and wait for loads of stock to amass, then release it all and kick bots and scalpers to the curb big time. Make this the last hardware release and focus on software updates from now on, ai is being heavily relied on now so why do we need more hardware when the software is doing all the work, every 12 months drop software optimisations instead, job done

I bet a good chunk of the inital supply is going to the people who work in the distribution and retail channels, especially here in the UK where there will probably only be a hundred or so AIB cards at launch across the country. In the words of the orange guy - scalp baby scalp.

It's pretty much guaranteed Nvidia has warehouses full of stock, they just release it periodically to keep demand sky high, It's a known tactic.

I wonder how many opf these "guaranteed" slots are not guaranteed at all and the scalpers are selling something they are just hoping they will get. I saw that a lot when the 3080 launched, ebay scalpers selling a promise, then cancelling the order when they couldn't get hold of one.

Yep cut 150w power for 6-8% less performance. Gap between 5090 and 4090 is so narrow already though, I can't understand why anyone would pay $2.5k for a 5090 and then willingly drop it's performance by 8%

Don't forget that isn't counting any overclock at all.

Plus 4090 isn't available at all now.

But if you have a 4080 FE already the 5080 is pointless and should wait it out until 6080 ? Its 8% gains over the 4080
If anyone has a 4080 and wants an upgrade, their only real choice is a 2nd hand 4090 or a 5090. Otherwise just chucking quite a large amount of money (inflated cost to buy AIB 5080, write down on selling 4080 2nd hand) for incremental gains. 5080 over 4080 is only 10.5% more CUDA cores and as we saw with the 5090 / 4090 review and comparison, performance increase in non CPU limited scenarios will be roughly proportional to CUDA core count increase.

I was set on the 5090 but I'm not comfortable with the high power draw and noise for the next two years. I think 5090 value will be destroyed on the new node and even if I kept it I'd be gutted people are getting the same performance for substantially less wattage and heat.

5080 for me (plus a grand in my pocket), then 6080.

If you only have one PC, then 5090 idle power draw is pretty mad over it's 2-3 year lifespan as flagship (barring any ti/titan variant, though unlikely IMO).

My 5090 will be going into my gaming rig, which is only used when I'm gaming, where I only care about performance. My work/media/everyday PC has my 4090 Strix, which is much more efficient for idle/media playback etc.

You're asking us if you can buy a Ferrari and downtune it to make it a Toyota to save fuel

Just buy a 5080 mate
5080 doesnt ahve enough vram and not quite good for 4k.

Im more or less asking if i can buy a ferrari but make it perform like a Audi R8 v10 whilst usiing it in country roads and motoways in the uk.

I can easily disable all underclocks and make it run like a ferrari when im in silverstone GP track driving around. Make sense?

Totally agree mate

I was looking at the 5080 FE as an upgrade from my 4080 FE if it was 30% plus increase. But not now I think I'll either look for a second 4090 FE or wait another 2 years and see what the 6080 or 5080ti might look like. But even when they announced the 5080 when I heard 16GB ram I was thinking sod that
