The closest to "7800gtx similar performance" is the 8800gts 320mb.

Well that's not the question though is it. And you can't speak on behalf of the OP. People give suggestions to allow the OP to determine what is best for himself which isn't for you to decide.

You can't tell me what is the best answer for me, only I can do that.

And if the question was what you falsely quoted, the nearest performance to a 7800GTX is a 7800GTX, however he clearly wants something more powerful and is trying to determine how much more powerful in terms of the cost and benefit.

Thats not the G92 model so it's half as fast as that 'Real' 8800 the 460GTX is much faster and he only upgrades once in 5 years he might as well get a 460 and have DX11 and have no problems running new games he wants /fin ;)
 
Im sure the 8800 GTS is a potential replacement, but when your spending money on new hardware, I always think its worth adding a bit more just so as you can get something a little bit better.

Chances are you wont be buying anything else for a while so make it slightly more worthwhile.

Whilst comparable to his 7800 GTX, I cant imagine having 320MB of VRAM is a good idea.

8800gts is the closest to similar (and better) performance.

It doesn't matter what each one of us think or would do in his position.
His requirements are pretty clear.

Anyhow, the op does not seem to care a lot about this thread anyway:)
