Nvidia 8500gt any good for WOW.

Don't get an 8800GT for WoW, there is a bug with the engine that causes low framerates no matter what, it runs at around 60 quite often but drops to the 30-40's are common and you really notice them because of how used to it being at 60 you will get.

That said I run WoW maxed out at 1920x1200, but I still don't think it's an issue with my card because it's WoW, not Crysis.

I had an 8500GT once for a few days as a stopover card..I got a 100% oc on the core, yet the card was still one of the slowest I have owned.

the ATI card looks like a good deal. As for the 9600gt, from what posts i've seen, they are just tweaked 8600 cards!!!!!

Questions is:

8800gt 256mb

or

4670 512mb

??

the 9600gt is a lot better than a 8600gts (which is better than the 8600gt)

basically the 9600gt is one step beneath an 8800gt (about 10% less performance)

they're decent cards, but priced stupidly

9600gt should be priced to slay the 4670 imo

I dont have any low framerate issues with my 8800gt in wow. Tried other drivers?

Ive heard all this sort of stuff on the forums but i fail to see how its a bug in wow if im uneffected and so are many others. Its more likely a problem with people's systems or software/drivers. If it was an issue in the engine ALL 8800gt's would be effected, and they arent.

I even ran this gt in my old 4400+ socket 939 system with no problems, and my new system flies when in wow. The only time you see any drop below 75+ fps in in shattrath when its busy ( though ive not been in much of northrend yet as i got the expansion late ).

Well either it's an 8800GT issue or a Vista one, I have no issues in any other games but WoW will simply not get 60 average in Windowed mode it's nearly always below 40, in full screen it's better but it still dips.

I found a massive thread a few days ago on the official forums about the 8800GT having the same experience.

Still, it could merely be that the 8800GT can't handle the game at 1920x1200...but come on it's WoW.

Ive got a 4870 512 and even i get 15 - 30fps sometimes in Dragonsblight (expansion area) so be prepared for the worst.

odd DB was ok for me above 30fps i fly into G hills the otherday and it drops into the low 20's thats at 1680x1050 4aa/16af droping to 2aa brings it to 30ish

Granted he only plays at 1280x1024 but my brother gets pretty much 70-90fps no real dips at all in wow using a stock 8800GT with a Q6600 (also stock).

the wow low framerate issues are caused by a bug with shadows enabled, i have shadows disabled and get around 170-200fps, with shadows i get 40-50
