Hey all, just wondering, what would be a good alternative to this card?
I'm on a very tight budget (£250) For a new computer.
And a £70-ish budget for GPU.
The only problem I have with this card is that it's a refurb. And with 3 months warranty, I don't think it'll last...

The resolution I'll be playing on will be about 1280 x 800 and I only want to be able to play games at about 40+ FPS.
But the GPU is the one thing I can't decide on, any help is appreciated :)

I'd go with that if I could, but as stated £250 budget...Besides RAM

But a 5770 would be good...

A bit confused, maybe you should edit your first post to explain the budget for the graphics card alone.

This card then:

These cards will be a bit faster or on par with an 8800GT

You refering to the 8800gt in the thread title, as opposed to the one in your current sig?

If your worrying about the GT, dont! ive had mine two years with a constant overclock on it. It is a SOLID card, so i woudnt worry about the fact that it is a referb. And it should play that resolution very well!

The one in the title, I'm replacing the one in my sig with a new rig :D

I'm not worrying about the perfomance at the moment, benchmarks aren't bad.
It's the fact it's a refurb, if it breaks, I can't replace it since I get no money, EMA sucks.
So I could do with a new card that has nice performance and warranty...

Hmm, so the GTX 460 seems to be the choice here, only problem being that I would need a bit more money...Otherwise known as lending...

I'm after going SLI in the future, so would two of these outperform a 5770 in Crossfire?

I know it's off topic, but is there anywhere I can get a Socket 775 SLI mobo?

why'd you think the card will not last? I would just keep the 8800GT.
If you insist on getting a new card. sell the 8800GT and use the change to get a card 70+sale value. (or 5770).

SLI socket 775 motherboards are only available with Nvidia chipsets.

These are generally only available second hand now though you may find the odd new one in stock somewhere.

ah my bad.

ati 5770 is a good choice. gtx 460 even 768 version is out of budget range.
GTS 450 is at best on par with 5770.

Yeah, just a little out of budget...
But it would be nice to have...
I'm thinking 'bout the 5770 or GTS 450, not sure what to pick...

The 5770 is better than the GTS 450.

From this review:

Had AMD kept the price of the Radeon HD 5770 at $140+, there would have been a well-defined place – however small – for the GTS 450. But instead for the time being AMD dropped the price of the 5770 to $130 and brought it in to direct competition with the GTS 450. The GTS 450 isn’t competition for the 5770; at best it’s as fast, at the worst it’s as slow as a 5750.
