I have just upgraded from my 580GTX to the 980 TI except When I put the card in my monitors will not detect an input (no signal). I have fully removed the previous driver and if I use the mobo onboard hdmi I cannot see the gfx card in the device list.

I also plugged in the old card and screen came up fine.


Is there anything I am missing here?

I saw that gen 3 pci is enabled too in mobo settings and there are no outstanding driver updates

I was soo looking forward to playing on this as well :~( lol
 
I'd go with a bios update needed as well.

Also, is it display port? If so, make sure the out metal part isn't touching the case at the rear.
 
BIOS Update? I had the same sort of problem when I upgraded from a 750Ti to a 980 :)

Didn't realise I was about 5 versions behind :eek:
 
So I thought my bios was up to date BUT as many of you suggested it I thought I would check. 8 versions old :) hahahaha

That has been updated now, but i still do not see a device in windows device list. (and no conflicted ones)



when I plug the card into the lower pcie slot I can see the mobo offers me a primary PEG option (slot above detects nothing.




I am going to butcher my home server today to see if that can detect the card as well
 
I have had to rma a 980ti for similar reason. I also have a z68 motherboard, it is on the latest bios but that is from 2012. I have a 970 installed at present but my 980ti is not detected in bios or windows. Tried everything so have requested a rma. Wondering if others are struggling with z68 boards?

At least I am not alone. I am just clearing space in my miniitx case to test the card to make sure its the mobo on z68.


Will confirm later today.
 
I dont think its the 980ti as such I've started to see threads with Z68 boards and 980ti issues. So do some more research.
 
I wonder if it's gonna work with my motherboard (won't be able to check for at least 10 days). If not I'm just gonna have to change my setup, finally, when skylake comes out...oh well so unfortunate:D
 
Ohhh just seen this thread - I've a Z68 Maximus Extreme iv-Z board and have ordered a G1980 ti due tuesday and this has got me wondering if it' work - any chance there is a forum member using the same board and gpu ?
 
I have a Gene 1v z gen 3 board and its not working with mine. Trying to decide if its the card or the motherboard but my motherboard works with the 970gtx. Would be good if anyone can confirm its working on their z68 chipset please.
 
I wonder why these newer GPU's are not compatible with older motherboards? As long as the motherboard has a PCI-E v1 x16 slot, you'd assume they would have to work. The PCI-E standard is all about compatibility etc.
 
I must have had 50 graphics cards in the past and never had this issue before, it's strange, I can't even see bios. I have posted a few forum posts on asus rog forums to see if anyone else has the problem. My gtx980ti is the gigabyte g1 gaming one, same as my 970. I don't want to send the card back but if my motherboard doesn't accept the card, what can I do. I will get a credit note and upgrade motherboard and cpu to skylane and then get a new card at another time.
 
I had an LGA1155 motherboard (MSI P67A-GD53) and I purchased a new 390 the other day, which had the exact same issue. I had to update the bios (which unfortunately bricked my motherboard), meaning I had to buy a new mobo and cpu which arrived on thursday.

Turns out it was the motherboard after all as my 390 is now outputting a signal to the monitor and working perfect.
