NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Whens the last time a gpu came out that needed a specific power connector nobody else was using? It at least seems it's legit now despite all the nay-saying a few weeks back.

I don't like the design of it looks like a joke tbh.

Everything about the card screams "wtf". Triple slot cooler (allegedly), really strange heatsink that seems quite intricate with strange fan placements, and now a new power connector that seems to have come out of nowhere. I can't wait for the reveal to see wtf is actually going on as it's a really weird design that's probably gonna be a real power guzzler.

When NVIDIA come out with a new heat-sink design they generally keep it for a while as evidenced by how long the blower style for the original titan stuck around for (up-to 1080ti). They regard this as their "ID" as part of the design For them to design a new one for Turing then immediately ditch it for this card is interesting to say the least.

Ran mine on a 750 with no probs. :)

Yup, could run em on even lower too :)

Not sure why anyone worried about a min 850watt PSU

The price of this card going most likely cost well over 1k
A 850watt PSU costs about £120 (Got be one of the cheapest parts of a high end PC build)

Think it's more down to the expectation of this to be a card that's going to run pretty hot, quite possibly clocked as high as possible with enough voltage thrown at it to get it there. It's an utterly ridiculous looking card to say the least.

Only if the majority upgraded every single time news cards were released. I don't think that's actually the case.

Market was also growing in size back 10-15 years ago (so sales could grow thanks to new people sucked into it), now it's pretty saturated and segmented to the max, but the bottom line is that PLCs have to generate X bln per year and for high growth companies like Nvidia that number should keep going up, that and complexity of creating new GPUs explain why we see >£1000 prices: it is what it is.

I've plugged the 1300w psu back in in anticipation.
I had an issue of power failure on my last build so i bought a 750w evga psu to try.
It ended up being the mobo and i never took the psu back out.

My brain must have knew i was saving it for something special:D

If I can run 2x 2080 Ti's, 9900k at 5ghz, a few 3.5' hard drives, H150i pro AIO, 7x ML120 RGB fans 2x strips and many USB devices all running off 1x corsair AX860i PSU for 2yrs 100% issue free then 850w for 1x top end 3000 series GPU will be overkill.

And this PSU has ran every Ti card in SLI since the 780 Ti days, though I'll be going back to a single card this time so there should be plenty of power to spare. For anyone attempting to SLI the 3000 series then 1000w+ PSU on the new cards will most likely be needed if they are upping the power draw this time.
