getting doom/crysis running off a tablet would have been neat and something new,but with a 20w tdp the shield box does absolutely nothing new or even that efficient.

Intel's 15w broadwell u hd 6000 performs as good or better than the x1..massive fail from nvidia and makes future tablets with nvidia chips seem really unlikely now...the nexus 9 might be the last tablet with a nvidia chip

powervr will stay the no.1 mobile gpu for the foreseeable future
 
Things come with batteries and chargers cost next to nothing. Matter of fact everyone already has one.

And what happens when the built-in battery goes faulty?
 
So Nvidia are still desperately trying to make something other than GPUs and failing at every step.

Seriously if they can't even get a tablet taken seriously then this thing is just doomed to fail.

I think they are trying to throw a lot of things against the wall and see what sticks. All the greats have done it, it's really the only way to secure a future for the company.
 
^ Apart from that last part there, I agree with you. Isn't that how the best companies work? Apple/Microsoft etc, test waters with alright/crap products (to test)?

All the greats? Dell have tried repeatedly and failed.

The problem for Nvidia is that as a company dealing with other companies no one likes them because of their terrible attitude. They have burned so many bridges now it isn't even funny.

They're trying to dominate in other areas and just fail every single time. They are doomed to be a GPU manufacturer and that's it IMO. They just don't have the street cred to pull stuff like this off (a la Apple).

The issue is, as others have pointed out, that the GPU sector alone just won't be enough going into the future. They know this, that's why they keep coming up with crap like this. But it's like I said, if you can't even get a tablet to sell (one of the most desirable objects of today) then stupid phoney consoles don't stand a chance.

Shield is hardly a nice bit of kit. The 3D tech is good mind you but Tegra is very power inefficient, its not a very good chip at all. Its performance per watt is awful.
