Hopefully tommorrow my Asus 4850 will come.
Im currently using my old 8400 gs as my 3870 died and got refunded :cool:
When i get around to cleaning the Nvidia drivers what shall i do ?

I know firstly to go to add/remove and remove the Nvidia drivers, however then when it comes to driver cleaner which things do i remove? In the list there is: Nvidia, Nvidia control panel, Nvidia stereo, Nvidia WDM, shall i remove all of these ? Before i had problems with drivers conflicting with each other so i just want to make sure i do it right this time. :)

Also what brand of feather duster is best?

I normally remove the program (everything - control panel, driver etc) via the uninstall procedure, then run the Guru3D driver sweeper. After that, I reboot and run driver sweeper again (as Windows locks some of the core driver files until you reboot) then I install the new driver.

ok thanks, do you do this in normal windows or safe mode ?
 
I've read several times that Driver Cleaner Pro is undesirable now because it hasn't been updated for years.

Driver Sweeper seems to be the new tool of choice.
 
Before you uninstall all nVidia make sure you don't have a nVidia chipset. CCleaner may also be worth running as that sometimes picks up rogue reg entries.

Also you can try...

open a cmd window
type 'devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices = 1'
type 'devmgmt.msc'
View, Show hidden devices

and delete any old greyed out entries for the old gfx card, monitors etc. Though it may be best to do that after putting the ATi card in.

Intel chipset :(

Shall try this , twas mighty annoying having the drivers cut out in games

btw windows couldn't recognise these commands and it looks as if i am having problems with drivers now again :(
 
I don't want to hijack this thread but I got my 4870 today and was just going to install it.

Maybe a stupid question but do I remove the nvidia drivers while I have the 8800GTS in the system or after I put the 4870 in?
 
I used to use Driver Cleaner pro, but then i switched to Driver Sweeper, as Driver Cleaner doesn't do a proper job, it leaves stuff behind.

All i do is add/remove the drivers, reboot, cancel the Found New Hardware Wizard that pops up, then run Driver Sweeper (which only needs the one Nvidia/ATi entry selected, for whichever card you have), then i install new drivers once its done.

If i was popping a new card in from the other team though, id do the add/remove as above, but instead of rebooting after that, id shut down, swap cards, then boot back up and do the rest, Drvier Sweeper, new drivers. :)

Never had any probs doing that.
