Nvidia cards - compatibility question

I bought this particular card because I have a 2560 x 1600 monitor (30") and I like to use native resolution in games, and I do video editing and use photoshop.

I guessed that the extra vram would help with video editing and photoshop (photoshop now configured to use gpu), and thought it might help with the large res of my monitor, but like I said I was guessing. If i'm wrong I'll phone ocuk and order the 2gb one you've recommended.

Thanks for your advice.

I can under stand the psychology of buying the 4Gb over a 2Gb but you really should look at some reviews.

Anandtech (includes Eyefinity/Surround)

There's others out there as well and in a few games the 2Gb does show it's limitations at 2560x1200 where the minimum rate falls of a cliff but the reviewers really did have to crank up the AA and post rendering effects to such a point your not getting playable framerates on the 4gb card (less then 30fps).

If you are worried about memory limitations then the HD7970 makes a great compromise with 3Gb of VRAM which offers similar levels of performance to the GTX680 (Ghz edition cards along with the latest drivers) plus you get copies of Far Cry 3, Hitman and Sleeping Dogs to boot. The draw back is the power draw of the 7970 and generally runs hotter but with the money your saving your could afford to watercool it lol.

If I do cancel this and switch to another card, who's the best person on the forum to contact today, as they will probably process it first thing Monday morning before I get through on the phone.

Post a thread in this forum http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=118 and make sure you include your order number. With any luck one of the staff members might read this thread and take it from here.

Thanks. I see the amd cards win that battle decisively.

What about this beast. It's on offer and price is ok for me. Worth it though?

<<edit>> Forget about it. It's longer than a football park. Would be right into my hdd bays!!

Jeezus, my psu died tonight (and it was a nice 1000w corsair as well), so was forced to make a purchase in a hurry. Thought the mobo was fried but tried an old antec 650w i had up the attic and system is fine, but had to put an old 7800 gfx card in to get the display working as the antec psu doesn't have the new pci express connectors, so my screen res' is totally borked and computer hard to use.

Bought a 7970 and a new psu and cancelling the gtx680. Thanks for tips on what gfx card to go for everyone.

What a drama !!!!

<<edit - screen res fine now. i had the monitor connector plugged into the secondary connector on the card

what a **~##~ night >>
