nVidia Cards

At current prices the 8800GTS is a decent buy, but if you overclock don't expect to reach 9800GTX speeds, the memory on most 8800GTS's is pretty awful, and thats really what lets them down.

Good for you, I've tried three of them now and two wouldn't do 2000MHz so basically just didn't overclock at all, and the other just barely made it to 2100MHz and then only for benching as it wasnt completely stable.

Furthermore, the core speeds never reached 800, all seems to max at around 774, I don't think you realise how lucky it is to have a bog standard 8800GTS clock that well.

get the 8800GTS 512. beast of a card, beast of an overckocker...

alternatively, if you can wait a bit, wait till the end ofthe month and then go for ATi

Most of them are pre-overclocked versions which ship with better memory, it's pretty rare for the bog standard one to reach 2200MHz memory without modification, those with such cards should just thank themselfs lucky. Problem is they don't and think all cards overclock that well and go around spreading fud.
