nvidia control panel just keeps crashing when im trying to enable SLI

Recently ive had nothing but problems with my drivers, everytime im in a game that uses abit of power my graphics drivers crash and cause the game to white screen and then i have to close the game and reopen it for it to work, so i disabled SLI and tried it but it still didnt fix it but now when i try re enable SLI the control panel just crashes.

Windows 7
Graphics Cards: 2x GTX 580
Montherboard: Asus p8p67 PRO
Memory: Corsair vengence 1600

What i have done to try fix:
Removed then reinstalled drivers
Test it with just one card

corsair 1000w and no i havent tried an older driver yet, do nvidia do the older drivers or do i have to search around for them

Have you gone into safe mode and used a driver sweeper program to clear out all nvidia stuff after uninstalling the drivers?

Also, is the bios of the mobo up to date? though it's quite a new one, it shouldn't have sli problems

Reinstalling the drivers with the clean option is better than using driver sweep style stuff.

What CPU are you using btw? I've seen issues like this when people have tried to use Xeon equivalents of the desktop CPUs in desktop boards when using SLI.

Also possible the bridge isn't sitting correctly of faulty.

Nvidia just make bad drivers.... takes them months to release drivers where as ATI/AMD get a driver out monthly!

lols atleast express that "opinion" somewhere vaguely relevant rather than an obvious one off issue - 1000s of people enable/disable SLI all the time without problems.

Im just throwing the dirt around, in the same way that AMD have gained a bad rep from much the same thing.

No they haven't... they've gained a bad rep coz they are lazy at developing drivers - even if they aren't as bad as it used to be under ATI.

If they put their money where there mouth was half the time even we'd have had hardware GPU physics and tessellation from ATI/AMD back in 2006 at the latest, etc. etc. ( check the videos on youtube ).

But this is using Havok physics........

Its not an ATI Technology... and the devs just have to code something to make it work like that.

For instance, the Witcher 2 uses Havok physics.

I even think Havok runs in the cpu rather than the gpu.

The message Im putting across here, is: How much of what you think you know about GPU technology is not just based on perpetual misinformation parroted by others and then reparroted by you and then reparroted by others?

Your exhibiting signs of what I would call the 'skoda effect'. Skoda make **** poor cars yes? Or at least they did. However many rebrandings and redevelopments they go through, even if they actually bring out a great car, if it has a skoda brand on it, then it will always suffer from the skoda stigma.

So what im doing is branding Nvidia with the same stigma that ATI's drivers have got labeled with, too highlight the flaw in this train of thought.

It was Havok FX running on ATI GPUs - granted its not as straight forward as some of the other technologies that ATI/AMD have failed to put proper effort behind but a lot of the reason it never saw the light of day was due to ATI's reticence in putting proper support behind it and expecting the Havok guys to do all the work.

Trying to brand nVidias drivers - which while not perfect have never been that bad (as an ongoing thing granted there has been the odd problem driver) - as bad just because they don't get the same stick as ATI's have (deservedly) got is just stupid.

I agree with you.

However my point still is that people should not just brand ATI's drivers as poor, but rather as isolated cases which they are. (or even PEBKAC)

Nvidia too suffer froim isolated cases, yet, do we go round saying that all their drivers are crap?
