Nvidia crushes MSI's Lucid based board

Whats this in a nutshell, Lucid has been canned as Nvidia won't allow it ?

In a nutshell in my interpretation:

MSI have given in to pressure from nVidia and canned their Lucid motherboard.

There doesn't seem to be an issue with the Lucid chip or company itself, rather MSI's usage of it, and since MSI make nVidia graphics cards too, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd threatened them in some way with regards to rights to make nVidia based cards or something like that.

so basically there going to break compatability with there cards just because they wont be getting money?? but this would make there cards look better!! i dont get it. they wanna do this, break what would have possibly been amazing scaling for their cards, so there going to turn over the multi card scaling crown to ati without a doubt... o well! they will shoot themselfs in the foot. as usual

Ahh i see, thanks.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was true tbh :p

so yet again nvidea is working against the end user as usual! because of this its us that are going to loose out, this lucid technology looks amazing

Which is why I said hes commited suicide as far as journalism goes.. pulled the most tenuous link out his rear and tried to make a story around it based on... what?

Tenuous link, Big Band mobo brand ALL about Lucid, big press releases confirming the launch for OCt 29th. On Oct 29th all reference to a Lucid board is removed and suddenly a previously unannounced, unhinted at board replaces any mention of Lucid with Nvidia SLI chip instead?

They haven't launched a second completely unrelated brand of boards, they've replaced it with something thats unavailable and with seemingly(can't seem to see the different photo's at the moment due to crap internet) use the same picture of the same mobo with minor parts fairly obviously photoshopped out.

Tenuous link?

No, if this promise board dissappeared WITHOUT an IDENTICAL mobo suddenly sporting a new Nvidia chip instead, there would be no link whatsoever. However thats not what happened, add to that other companies all say it works, and MSI themselves up to the launch said it works and works great, theres little reason to delay it. Almost everyone in the industry knows Nvidia aren't happy about Lucid with their CEO talking about how it can't possibly work etc, etc, then being proven wrong.

You can pretend he pulled Nvidia's name out of his behind and slapped it all over there, however all the images on MSI's site where they've completely changed the board they were going to release, and have Nvidia's name all over it, well, I'm assuming you're not accusing Charlie of hacking MSI's site and replacing the board with a new Nvidia one with their name all over it?

Do also notice that Creative, and Lucid are mentioned as launch partners, with no sign anywhere of Nvidia on their Big Bang website.

Maybe Gigabyte will bring a Lucid board out instead? Or ASUS? That's a fight I'd like to see, nVidia vs ASUS :D

Ideally, I'd say it would be a company that has no affiliations with nVidia to remove the chance of them possibly threatening them with some sort of action.

So foxconn is the only manufacturer that I can think of at the moment that don't also make nVidia graphics cards as well.

Sometimes I wonder if your really Charlie :P

There is absolutely no basis for drawing a link between the lucid based boards not showing up and nVidia - just because it would suit nvidia doesn't make it so...

Its far more likely on balance that lucid couldn't deliver and MSI were forced to turn to nVidia and the NF200 chip to atleast produce something rather than an entire failure... tho personally I'm not a fan of applying occam's razor.

NOTE I'm not saying nvidia weren't behind this and I would not put it past them... but there is no way to draw a link between this event and nvidia without clutching at straws... its the worst kind of hack journalism imaginable.

Why would you say 30 days when you don't have the WORKING FULL FINAL RETAIL SILICON in your (MSI) own hands, tested and sent to the factories?

Is this the same Charlie who is sponsored by ATI/AMD to trash Nvidia ;)

Who is co-coincidently right most of the time? He blatantly hates nVidia, but that doesn't stop what he says being true now does it?

Well I can see why Nvidia are upset about it, but than again, who may suffer... us maybe?

Only us, then again, there's just more and more reason for people to boycott anything nVidia related.

There's already quite a few people on this forum doing so.

Even some of the terrible nVidia fanboys of the past are saying it.

They just need to block NVidia support, it would hurt NVidia way more than it would Lucid... I'd get another 5870 if I didn't have to put up with Crossfire.

If true that is.

It's unfortunate that I would not put this past nVidia the way they have been acting of late. As nVidia license/supply MSI they essentialy have them over a barrel, so its entirely feasable.

This more likely hurts everyone who wants to use 2 or more cards

Thats crossed my mind aswell. He always sticks up for this chubby yank moron for some bizarre reason.

Charlies last rant posted by the same fool was wrong too, which even Anandtech proved wrong
If there was a list of Charlies mistakes over the years, including ones about AMD, the list would be so long there could be a book made on it.

Oh and in other news, AMD/ATI are a-holes too, shock horror! And again.
(you certainly wont ever see fanboys like Tute or final8y post these things)

It's all about the moneys kids.

I've never liked Charlie much but in the past I still had some respect for his knowledge and access to the industry... but this latest piece would make the most talentless of hacks blush....

Oh noes we couldn't deliver on time... everyone hates nvidia at the moment so lets leak some semi-credible due to the SLI link crap tenously linking our problems to nVidia being mean.

If anyone knows anything about journalism... bang goes any credibility the journalist might have left...

Its extremely hard to take what you say as NOT trolling, when you link in your sig and find

E6600, Gigabyte P35, 2GB, 8800GT
Q9550, EVGA 750i F.T.W, 4GB, 260GTX MAXCORE SLI
OCZ PSUs, Creative X-Fi, Seagate HDDs

blatent fanboi are we ?
