Nvidia driver issue or DDU the cause?

So, yesterday I used DDU to uninstall the old drivers before installing 466.77. Since installing them when I try to use NCP it doesnt open and when I go to right click the desktop again gives me a blue spinning circle.

The MS game pass app wont open either weirdly. Last install I used NVCleaninstall and that was when the issues started but I went back and tried GFE and a driver install through that which seemed to clear it up. Booted up again today however and the issue is back.

Have I messed up the windows install using DDU or does this sound like anything else? Its a weird one as games boot up and play just fine. I ran sfc /scannow which detected some issues but has not fixed the problem.

I installed 466.63 the other day over 460.79 as I bought Days Gone.

I normally just select clean install and have been doing that for some time to be honest, hate to tempt fate but it never gives me any issues.

Only time I have used DDU was when swapping between Nvidia/AMD but this was aaaages ago (moved from a 280x to a 980ti).

Download from here :- https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-uk

Make sure to select the windows driver type "standard" not "DCH" , that section will show once you select geforce and 30 series, download and install them and see if the control panel works.

Also have a read of this :- https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4777/~/nvidia-dch/standard-display-drivers-for-windows-10-faq

if the control panel isnt there you can just download it anyway. sometimes if you just do a clean install the control panel wont be available.

sounds like something is wrong do a clean install with only the driver and phsyix. ddu can be useful but can cause lots of issues as well. id only use it if you really have to. normally a clean install is good enough.

Yeah I think it was probably that. I've used it in the past and its never caused an issue but Ive managed to get it all back to normal and rebooted a few times. Seems OK so far and the Xbox app opens which was weirdly tied to the NVP not opening as well. The test will be booting it tomorrow as I got it to this point yesterday. I begrudge a new OS install with Windows 11 hopefully round the corner.

I dont know if this is coincidence but after I installed the last drivers I also ticked GPU hardware acceleration in windows and Ive also removed it now which the system now works as well.

Update.

I actually ran CCleaner which picked up an ASUS lighting program that had not uninstalled properly and was giving me issues. Problem solved!
