NVIDIA drivers Vs AMD drivers

I personally prefer NV CP to CCC

I concur with Cleeecooo, NVCP is by far (IMO & his) better than CCC. Also had issues with ATi drivers in the past with games, something I have never had with nVidia, main reason I've stuck with nVidia since I moved from 9700Pro years ago.

One thing I have noticed recently is that both the 7970 and 680 are great cards but one thing that rarely gets mentioned is Drivers. I always remember having major issues with my Gigabyte 560TI 1GB having problems which was reported as "The driver has stopped responding and has recovered". Now I always put this down to drivers and was getting angrier at the constant game crashes however it turned out to be a lack of volts going through the GPU and a quick bios flash sorted that out.

Often, it is reported by users that they had problems with drivers (both NVIDIA and AMD), so it would be good for guys to give thoughts exactly on how the drivers perform for themsleves.

There's a NVIDIA drivers Vs AMD threads or talk every week.

Drivers for single cards is pretty much equal, I do prefer nvidia control panel.

But drivers for multi card set-ups, I'm sorry to say this but nvidia is streets ahead of AMD in this department.

Sorry if I missed them. All I could see was NVIDIA v AMD but none for specific drivers.

Could you link me to the other NVIDIA Vs AMD drivers threads please as I can't find them in the search :(

I said or talk.

its been at least a month with specific driver v driver thread but the talk never dies down.

Even the Console v PC gets brought up less.
Why do you think ALXAndy's memory is so good because he doesn't stop talking about it :D

AMD Radeon 7970

We're back to 2001 ! Rubbish drivers due to botched rushed release.

Nvidia GTX 480 SLI

Marvellous, thanks to drivers and EVGA SLI enhancer.

What a surprise, I guess you stand to talk so your voice doesn't get muffled right?

In single card format, there is nothing wrong with the initial driver release or anything since, you had a duff card or duff system/software, and you still derp on about AMD drivers. you're like a CD with a scratch and i'm surprised you've muddled through for so long.

The only problems i've ever had with graphics drivers, going back to 1990 or so were because of an error of mine, like an incompatibility, or i've installed something wrong. This is probably 9/10 times the cause of driver issues for most in single GPU builds, with the other 1/10 being the card itself at fault.

Haven't had an nvidia card for years, last one was a GTX260, had 4850, 4870, 6850, 6870, 6950, 7850 (last one current card)

never had a prob with any drivers for those cards for general use. I tried Xfire with 2 x 4850, and 2 x 6850, and would work in some games, not in others, whatever I used, gamewise, some worked, others only ran on one card.
But general reliability was great with a single card.

Had a few vsync problems with ati drivers a few Years ago but nothing that wasnt fixable. Couple of niggles with nvidia control panel and getting 1:1 pixel mapping when first installing my 570. I slightly prefer the ccc though but am happy to use either drivers. Not tried sli or crossfire.

The AMD 5970 I had was decent, though I had driver issues with RAGE and Skyrim (the latter because you couldn't until recently disable Crossfire). I also had an issue with dual-monitors and overclocking, as PowerPlay caused the idle clocks to drop too low and caused flickering - I had to flash the BIOS to fix it.

I've only just gone back to nVidia recently. I prefer their drivers overall - the desktop right-click menu option looks better, the control panel is better laid out and loads faster, it's easier to change settings for individual games and you get additional options in games (16x CSAA, 16xQ CSAA and soon to be TXAA). PhysX is irrelevant to me, though I'd rather have it than not. However, I'd happily go with AMD if they offered better performance or value.

That said, people's personal experiences will certainly affect their perspective. For instance, I always go with Seagate hard-drives and have always found them to be incredibly reliable (I also had several failures with Western Digital), whereas my brother's perspective is the complete opposite. If people have a bad experience with AMD or nVidia then that tends to stick, regardless that the other 99% of their time with them was fine.

Still on that vibe eh Dave? You don't learn do you mate?

Locky has the exact same issues with sleep as I did. Meaning, it isn't down to my system or the fact I did anything wrong.

I just posted a 14 year history with drivers and all of the issues and problems that came along with them. So stop cherry picking and trying to rubbish me and the card I owned by saying it was down to me.

Nvidia released a driver that killed my GPU stone dead ! but you've ignored that part and gone onto the bit that hits a raw nerve.

One day you will realise that you are just miles from the mark and AMD do indeed make mistakes.

The card I had works perfectly, thanks. I sold it onto a guy who managed to clock it to 1150mhz and has had no driver issues whatsoever.

What I said was perfectly true. AMD rushed out the 7970 to beat Nvidia and the old adage of "Act in haste repent at leisure" comes to mind.

Even the new Nvidia 680 drivers are problematic for some, but I've noticed you not arguing over that eh Dave?

I can only go by what happens when I put something in my computer and install the drivers. The very fact I was able to run each and every benchmark and have no issues at all whilst putting out higher numbers than the 7970 in pretty much every test says it all.

Be fair Dave, Andy's sharing his personal experiences and he's trashing both sides evenly.

Which leads me to believe the problems are unique to him :p
Maybe there's a badly fluctuating electrical problem in his area?

Only they aren't, Dave. Which has been pointed out to you not only by me but by the other person suffering the exact same issues.

FFS it's not like no one else but me has had issues with the drivers ! there's been loads of people saying they suck.

Lol, your AMD fanboyism's worse than Ltmatt's :p:D

Moi? ;) I run an Nvidia 580 in my server

1 or 2 out of more people praising them. Only you and Locky spring to mind, and he managed to get 2 7970's running, and he didn't threaten to Vaseline them up in his garden shed, or was it chainsaw? Can't remember... ;)
