Nvidia Drops XP Support!

I have the luxury of running XP and vista on several pc`s , and whilst i like the look of vista (after altering it to an op sys i can actually use without being told do i want to do this and other poo i dont want) i think as a gaming platform its naff. I think nowt more needs to be said at the mo.

Slight derail, but...

Anyone manage to get XP and Vista working on the same HD? I think I read in the Inq that Vista will automatically overwrite XP, so I'm thinking of sticking it on its own HD (when I try it free for 30 days :p).

You can always just partition the HD. :)

I dual boot Vista, allthough first time I installed, when I formatted the Vista partition it erased 160gb of stuff off of my HDD and rendered 2 partitions useless.

Since them I have never formated from in Vista setup, I have used Paragon in XP.

daul booting is possible if you install vista to a diff partition or hdd. I think the nvidia guys perhaps cant do this, and this is why the driver support is dodgy at the mo for both XP & Vista

Why don't Nvidia do proper driver releases on their website?

Because the like of Guru3D use us guys as Guinea Pigs in many respects to try it out, and Nvidia watchs from a far to see how it pans out, it has been this way for many years now.... and probably works, leaked drivers are always the way forward.

So Beta drivers aint leaked? Why dont Nvidia just have them on there site?

Total marketing ploy aimed at presurising people to upgrade to their DX10 cards, vista or both, in my opinion.

I wouldn't be suprised if Nvidia had been given a back hander of M$ for dropping xp support either, as it's bound to help vista sales in the long run.

Think about it, people with perfectly good DX9/7800/7900 setups start having the inevitable driver problems/glitches with newer games in a few months time,

what are they supposed to do with no driver support ? They'll have 2 choices, either buy a new Nvidia DX10 card (suprise, suprise), or upgrade to vista (suprise, suprise).

Driver support is still there, its just harder to find, thats all.

I can do partitions ;) From painful experience I've learned that it's best to put Windows in the first partitions on the drive, as it has a tendancy to format all partitions up to the Win partition, if not already in NTFS. Hence all my Linux partitions come after XP...

But if I stick Vista on the second partition on the drive, or at least keep it with the other NTFS partitions, hopefully it'll play ball :)

Nvidia need to get Vista drivers to a decent state

Agreed :)

I just find your appeal for better drivers, well put..... "Good, they need to focus on the vista drivers, they suck." a solid argument. XP is the main stay of operating system's for a while yet till new comps start with Vista full stop. So sorry dude.... Please get over it. No offense intended......

Strange you seem to agree vista drivers need improving so what exactly is wrong with saying they suck?

Also said they should focus on vista as the current drivers need allot of work (or just plain suck :p), I did not say they should stop driver support for XP. Afterall, if they never focus on vista then it will never become "the main stay of operating systems ".

Or stick to a proven operating system that works well...
if no one put effort into developing drivers then how will a new OS get to the point of being "proven" with mature drivers and such?

It is for now, but I don't understand why they'd move them in the first place, at least not without an alteria motive (hehe, conspiracy-theory-mode-setting-in).

I've just checked the site and the 93.71's are still under the 'Geforce and TNT2' section, but I can't find them anywhere else on the site.

If they're continuing to support xp with future driver updates then I wonder why they didn't leave them where they've always been.

Meh, I don't even know why I'm bothered, since I don't own an Nvidia card. :D
