There is no doubt NVIDIA will be launching the 90nm G71 in March and the official name will be GeForce 7900. We came to know that there will be 2 versions; the GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB and the GeForce 7900 256MB. The GeForce 7900 GTX will be launched at CeBIT on 9th of March while the GeForce 7900 GT will be launched later on 20th March most likely together with the GeForce 7600 series. There are little information about the pipelines and clock speeds yet. The current rumours implied a 32 pipes G71 so if that is true, 7900 GT could be 24 pipes. We overheard a yield issue that leads to the delay so it could probably meant a high core clock or too many pipelines causing the problem.

I hope they are released during March, i feel the need to upgrade, ready for UT2007, which im sure would benefit from the extra pipelines... :)

If there last lot of 7800gtx 512mb was the last shipment...
Then surely they not going to be waiting almost another two months before they ship another top end card..

So long as it's a decent improvement over 7mth old 7800GTX...

I've been heavily dissapointed by X1800/7800512/X1900 taking cost and performance difference into account.

I've seen x1900's ludicrously cheap for what they are, even cheaper than some of the x1800 cards... :| ATI have got their pricing right imo, it's THE top end card, of course it isn't going to be cheap!

Yeah the x1900's are prety hot on the price/performance ratio, they're very very fast.

£304 + Vat for a X1900 is a corking price. I am very impressed with the price / performance Ratio of the X1900. I was so impressed I decided to try one out myself. Can't see any reason to wait and buy a 7900 when they are all going to be old hat when DX10 hardware appears. The X1900 will remain viable until that happens regardless.

I sure don't think ATI has got there pricing right..£100 more for the crossfire card over the price of a slave card..You got be joking..You can buy a motherboard for a less then that..
Sure looks like ATI don't want people to go crossfire with there cards..

Exactly, thats pretty shocking. + the master card is only an XT not even an XTX.

Let alone the fact that most of the XT-X are selling for £500, its hardly much better value than the 7800 512s

There is a $50 US, or £25-30 difference between the top ATI cards and the top Nvidia cards. The Nvidia cards are 5% more expensive. WOW- value for money, not.

I was just wondering everyone, when Dx10 comes along Xmas or something?

Will cards such as the 7800 and 7900 support it?

Tis very strange they are pushing XFire yet charging so much for the master. You would have thought it would be common sense to make them the same price to get the product established, loss leader basically if needs must. Only thing they are doing is putting people off by charging so much.

No but it wont stop you playing games you will just loose some functionality which equates to speed and eye caddy. Don't forget the massive user base of DX9 capable cards no one in there right mind will give that up. Would be instant death for a company. It will be a gradual thing with backwards compatibility with DX9.

As far as i know it wont just be like how you can play a Dx9 game with a Dx8 card.Supposedly its like if you dont have Dx10 your made go to Dx7 which is a big hit in IQ.

I have seen a post from Gibbo ( I seem to remember) that as soon as Master cards become more available they will drop in price considerably

This is my understanding anyway - so give it two or three months ( by which time we will still be too early to really need a Xfire solution) and you should be able to pick up a decently priced master card

Why does it matter whether the masters are XT's as apposed to XTX's? We will overclock them anyway, and from what i have seen there isnt that much difference between a XT and XTX anyway ( 25Mhz (4%) on the core and 100Mhz (<7%) on the memory)!!!

Just my 2p worth

I guess I will just have to stick with XP and DX9 and ignore Vista and DX10 then.

No its not backward compatable, but Microsoft will be providing a wrapped layer access to DX9.... at least thats what i read on these very forums :)

I've seen them for approx £410 inc in a couple of places from launch day.

32 pipes will be more than enough on the fillrate front. from what im guessing the next step will be for nvidia to start increasing the shader power like ati has done. but the added advantage of the 32pipes giving a very high fillrate hence ultra high resolutions will be possible with stupid amounts of AA.
the future is starting to look good now for the pc.
can't wait to see whats after G71.
