And if 8gb and close to tx performance is the case, the 390x could be the best choice all round for bang for buck.

+1

Not likely

If you want a TitanX you will have to pay full price.:p:D

Titan X - When 12gb means 12gb (not 4gb with go faster stickers).:D

'The Titan X price' :p

Thinking about it, if this has a cluster disabled it means it will have less ROPs as well?

Like the 970, unless they have worked some wizardry with this card. I'm sure we'll find out a few months down the line if it's Vram / ROPs gimped etc..

84 ROPS
5GB + 1GB
2816 CUDA Cores

????????????

I am very sure this new card will work properly in all respects and will not have any of the 970 problems.

I also think the 980ti could be a lot of fun for people who want to overclock or bench and Gibbo is going to sell a lot.:)

Agreed, it will sell a lot. I don't think that many Titan X owners will downgrade to it though like that guy was suggesting. That type of buyer wants more performance / features not less.

I think new AMD GPU if it outperforms the Titan X could see people moving from Titan X, me included.

Kaap is ordering 4 I take it.

4 or every GPU ever made.

I think I will still be using my TXs in 2 years time no problem.

Classic mistake people make with GPUs is they buy the fastest option rather than the best one.

Running out of memory will hurt your gaming experience long before running out of GPU grunt if you are using SLI or CF. In 12 months time games may need 20% more GPU grunt and memory, this is not a problem for the TXs but the 980ti and Fiji cards could struggle.

You keep older cards anyway don't you? Will you pick up some 3XX series cards as well, or just using TX for next couple years?

I agree with your comment on memory, upcoming GPU's need to have 8GB imho. Especially as they get marketed for 4K, 4K this and 4K that, with only 4GB/6GB it's not enough.. In that way Titan X will have some longevity. Really hope AMD cards are 8GB, pointless otherwise, unless HBM somehow differs in the way in the way it utilises it's capacity.

Don't like all this uncertainty lol, worried will take a big loss on TX so soon after buying..

NVIDIA launches GeForce GTX 980 Ti for 649 USD

NVIDIA officially introduces new graphics card in GeForce 900.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti — Big Maxwell for the masses

GTX 980 Ti becomes the fifth unanswered GPU launch: GTX 970, GTX 980, GTX 960, GTX TITAN X, GTX 980 Ti — all these cards were not met with any response from AMD. However, next month AMD is planning to unveil its new Fiji silicon, hopefully causing some disturbance in enthusiast segment.

What’s interesting is that Fiji already made NVIDIA change its policy towards TITAN-X custom cooling solutions. Are custom TITAN-Xes and custom GTX 980 Tis enough to compete with Fiji XT and Fiji PRO respectively?

The GTX 980 Ti is not the flagship card. It’s a cut-down chip with 256 CUDA cores missing from the Maxwell GM200 silicon.
It is not a huge difference, NVIDIA even left the same number of ROPs (96), so they took a different path from GTX 970, were some ROPs turned out to be disabled (few months after it was released). With only 256 CUDA cores and 16 TMUs missing the difference should only be observed in ultra-high-definition tests.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti comes with the same reference cooling solution as GTX 980. I am not aware of any changes in design, other than adopting it for PG600 board.

I think the sensible thing for me to do is sit and wait to see how good AMD's flagship is.

No point going TX > 980ti > AMD flagship and losing cash twice.

Agreed, just wait it out for a while, I'm planning to do the same. I want a card with an AIO pre fitted, so EVGA 980 Ti / Titan X Hybrid's look nice and whatever AMD's Fiji ends up like. Like you though I'm worried about losing money in the re sale, so just have to wait out and see what's what after all cards are released.

It is the fastest single GPU card on earth. A statement we've said many times about a new nVidia card. To manage to better the performance of the Titan X, and do so for such a lesser price and so quickly after its release, makes it impossible not to be blown away by the GTX980Ti. The fact that it does all this with a reference cooler and early drivers as well only makes us excited to see what the future will bring. You owe it to yourself to hunt out this staggeringly brilliant card.

Well there goes a chunk of re sale value :p

Now just wait and see if AMD can beat these cards..
