*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

If only playing @1440p is it worth holding out for a 3080? Or what about AMD's latest offerings?

So, I'm in a pretty unique position in that I owned a 3080 and a 3070 already (long story).
The difference is surprisingly substantial. Here's a Palit 3070 vs Aorus Master 3080 in the same system, should help you decide.
Apex Legends on max settings, 1440p, hits a solid 144fps everywhere except drop (when you see the whole map), where it dropped to maybe 130 on the 3080. On the 3070, it still gets 144fps in most places but starts to drop off when you're in more open areas of the maps, going as low as about 110 (or 100 on worlds edge). Of course this was stock on both cards, no overclocking or anything else done.

UBM results too:

Is userbench really accurate? Did you try timespy or something?

Welp, I'm back. Had a trinity 3080 in my hands and then in my rig, then had a mate bribe the crap out of me for it.

Into the strix oc Queue I go! What's the highest number anyone's got on it?

You're in for a very long wait. They shipped less than 20 of these. That's better than some queues but still very poor. Of course, people are cancelling all the time, so that will help.

Yeah, this is effectively my placeholder, I will buy elsewhere and cancel if it comes up. But better to be in a queue than not

Speaking as someone who has used a 3080 I'd say yes, some games maxed (red dead and far cry new dawn) are above the 10gb vram that has, let alone the 8 from the 3070
There is no game using 10GB of VRAM. VRAM Usage reporting is not even remotely accurate. Systems will request as much Vram as you throw at it even if it only uses 2GB it will still say 10GB or 12GB or 16GB

Ah Friday, looking forward to seeing how many cancellations this week to bump me up the non existent TUF standard queue... I can be sanguine unless my currently on track XSX and PS5s don't arrive, which is just as well given we'll probably be on the mid gen console refresh before these ship. I was 887 last week, any bets?

Can you cancel a pre-order with overclockers u

So is 8GB ok then? What do most games tend to use? I understand the higher the resolution, more vram usage.

It will help, but not if OC are getting little / no cards through. May as well look elsewhere and sign up to stock alerts.
