*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

OC cards are tested for up to 144 hours according to some reports, cards that fail to meet the standards are then binned into non OC cards via firmware/minor hardware changes. This is standard practice across all manufacturers, it's how they deal with variable yields. If all chips performed equally there wouldn't be a need for OC and non OC variants, it would be a waste of money to have multiple SKU's if they aren't really needed.

It makes sense from a business stand point to make the OC cards first and use the lower quality failed stock in the lower clocked product lines, it's to reduce waste/costs.

Zotac Amp Halo should get a release date soon, They updated the Boost clock info... Only 1770MHz

What a total joke. Non OC were hitting 2ghz then crashing. Now they making an OC card that's underclocked.

If they just didn't use **** components and just made more than enough non OC they would be in the bank laughing by now.

does anyone know why OCUK are still taking preorders and every other retailer out there are NOT taking no preorders?

Its either OC have a trick up their sleeve and will surprise their 6000+ pre order customers in the next 60 days

Maybe they will get a special shipping container full of 30 series cards, i can remember when PS3 and PS4 shipping containers were delivered to retailers under police escort

OCUK will get shipping containers delivered to them under armed guard, im sure of it

Also when the latest iPhone and Samsung phones have also had private mercenaries providing security to get delivered safely

he he he

Because this Gib dude needs a second Ferrari?

@jaycob wouldn't worry about "official" boosts clock. Mine old EVGA 1070 FTW has 1770MHz at least according to official specs and boost to 1950-1955MHz while being undervolted via modified BIOS.

I wonder if you can undervolt ampere... most new laptop have had software/hardware lock and none of the avaliable software can modify any voltage rails...

I ordered ASUS TUF on 6th Oct no email either, likely they haven't shipped any since then so no email?

Prolly because they are expected to cancel orders rather than waiting for a queue number. Just an idea of how many people have ordered. Folks who placed an order on the day they were meant to be available within the hour might not be showing up till December.

With the momentum of orders that day alone till 7th October you're looking at like mid 2021.

On the topic of the ASUS Strix and a North American rep not listing the non-OC in production... are they selling the non-OC in the US? I've been trying to think of reasons for his statement that aren't "ASUS Suck" for not having Strix non-OC on the list and that is the only possibility I could think of. Looked at 4 US stores websites that I know have sold some 3080s, only two listed the Strix at all, both of which only had one model. Admittedly the only one listing a boost clock seemed to list the non-OC one, so that might scupper this "maybe there is a reasonable explanation" attempt, but if someone more familar with the US market wants to chime in with a "possibly"/"thats dumb and so is Lastof" that might be nice

I ordered on the 7th of oct

The sent the list out to all orders on the 2nd, and now it only gets updated when new shipments of a card get sent out (and they missed at least one of those too). Which card did you order?

is that across all cards or just the tuf gaming one, and I ordered the OC Strix card

Good news is some OC Strix are expected to ship out today, so hopefully they'll send out an update email later today or some point tomorrow. Bad news is based on the spreadsheet we've collected of queue positions odds are you are in the 1000 region, but hey, at least it isn't a TUF non-OC (2000ish), MSI Trio (1500ish) or a Gigabyte Eagle (at least 1500ish, but less recent data for it)

Just ordered a Strix OC elsewhere from somewhere with smaller queues. They didn't have stock, but when I messaged them about stock and queues, they were very upfront about everything, and even though they are a smaller company, I felt like I'd be more likely to get the card sooner, and know exactly where I stand in the meantime.

Keeping my order here for now, just in case, but feel a lot less stressed about it now. Yes, I will cancel whichever one whenever the other shows up. :)
