I have 2 x NVidia 580 in SLI, they have served me well.

Thinking of upgrading to 2 x NVidia 970 or 2 x NVidia 980.
But will be getting them 1 at a time, will 1 x 970 or 1 x 980 be faster than 2 x 580 in SLI.

Or can I put 1 x 970 or 1 x 980 in SLI with a 580.

Thanks

I'm in similar situation, I have 2x Radeon 5870s in Crossfire which still serves me well but I'd like to upgrade to a 980 and then add a 2nd 980 later but I'm wondering if it's worth holding out for a 980Ti or similar once they come out later this year hopefully. I game at 1080p with 120hz so would like games to have 120fps

@DanTheMan86 - if you have a 120Hz monitor, it's not necessary to have games run at 120FPS :) The benefits come from when you have games running at over 60 FPS.

At the moment, an SLI 980 rig will push well over 120 FPS in most games, while a 980 can hover at around 80 - 100. SLI 980 at 1080p is a bit overkill in my mind.

EVGA Classified is one of the most expensive options available, and it's aimed at people who want to push their systems really hard. Get it if you can afford it, but returns will be minimal compared to other 980s available.

The FTW is a good option.

You could sell one of the 580s... I know you won't be getting much, but that is what happens when you shell out for the most expensive parts when they are released :)

Yes, correct, but I find it amusing that you dismiss AMD, yet Nvidia have supposedly miss-sold a product. So for whatever reason you are not happy to hand money over to AMD, but are perfectly happy to hand money over to a company that failed to supply all information about the 970's architecture.

Its simple, I dislike AMD, I dislike crossfire, I don't like there drivers...hence I wont buy there products.

And when was the last time your tried any of it?

I've had just as many problems with Nvidia over the years as I have AMD, be it drivers, game support, SLI/Crossfire profiles. Yet I wouldn't let a bad experience of one put me off from buying their brand ever again.
