Nvidia GT200 released in July ?

It shows how much of a cheap trick they were if NV can replace them this quickly.

not really

the same thing happened with the last 7800 GX2 cards, a very short time later (couple of months?) is when the 8800's started coming.

I expected this anyway, but will this time be the same that the single card will obliterate the GX2? i hope so.

Think that means that GT200 is a shrunk G92. So much for 'new' high end, but hey, if it performs well, cool, and, most importantly, will end the God dam 'omg how will it run crysis'? Then, roll on.

Martyn

Ah yes of course, i was thinking that G92 WAS the new core! haha d'oh!

Anyway im not upgrading until someone brings out a single card that can run Crysis @ 2560x1600 high detail (lol)

Every day I'm more and more pleased I ignored the rabid mob here who hurled derision at the early 8800GTX buyers, laughing at them for having "more money than sense", being stupid for buying an expensive, pointless, soon to be beaten (supposedly by the R600 at the time) "DX10" card with no games for it.

You know who you are ;)

Well over a year later it's still giving stonking performance and the best value for money I've had from a GPU since my beloved ATI 9800pro :)

It doesn't happen very often, but the 8800GTX early adopters can afford a smug smile for a little while at least this time. Makes a nice change not to get burnt as an early adopter for a change :D

Honestly, looks like 8800GTX is going down in GFX history is one of those legendary cards even its maker is finding it hard to make something better. nVidia spent $400 millions to make G80s, so for them to come out with something twice as powerful they would need to spend more cash, a hell of a lot more which I think is not what they want to do right now :p That is until ATI release a new chip that blows away G80/92, nVidia needs a rocket under their arse = we need competition:o

Would it be so much extra just to tack a few more shaders, rops, tmus and increase the bus size a little just for that evolutionary step in performance? nVidia didn't even do that...

In may case the GTX will still have some way to go to beat my ATI x800xt platinum for longevity.

I had it for three years in my system without it struggling on any game (only had a 17" monitor then though). I only upgraded when there were two many shader 3 games out which I wanted to play.

Bought it for the bargain price of £250 (£100 off one week special ocuk brand) from ocuk and sold it for £50, three years later.

Can't beat that for value for money.:)

In my opinion, the G92 8800 cards were all temporary stop gaps. The 8800GTS G92 is meant to be end of line at the end of this month with a 9800 GTS coming out.

As already stated on this thread, I think Nvidia were just getting things tweaked and were under pressure with launches from ATI.

Yes, a big disappointment on the performance front for those who want the best/fastest but great for mid range people like me who picked up a 8800 GTS G92 for £127.

All in all, I'd glad that Nvidia did what they did. Saved me a packet.

Not sure why peeps are so interested in the RV770. I personally believe it will only be around the performance of the 8800gtx/gts(g92). What will be interesting is the price they will charge for it, and how it gets on with crossfire on a single pcb/multi gpu setup.

I am interested in what the GT200 will bring, but I am pretty darn sure that I won't be able to afford it!

My own personally wish is for amd/nvidia so sort out the memory sharing issue, that is currently maintaining the higher price of gx2/x2 style cards. I realise this is also a selling point for them to keep unknowledgable peeps from knowing that it is only really half the memory, but would still be nice to see it resolved for efficiencies sake.

only if you interesting in any new cards like Nvidia GF9900 or ATi Radeon 4870 that will come out this year but next year ATi release new R800 and Nvidia will do the same as well -- I keep my 2 of XFX GF9600GT XXX (SLi) just now until 2-3 years time... it depend on you if you can afford to buy one and use it for wee bit longer instead of short time - have to be careful, best to read any review first before decide it. :)

I feel that ATi and Nvidia may put new HDMI and Display Port and dump DVI in the future for all new cards.

But they will still bundle HDMI to DVI adapters with the cards just like the DVI to VGA that are with the cards now.

They wouldn't have made the card if it was not likely to make them money, and I'm sure they knew how badly the card would look to enthusiasts.

hmmm just had a thought, does this mean a couple of months later, these 9900's will get owned by Dx11 cards. :D

I read some news that the new 9900 wont be use DX10.1 or 11 - it stay at DX10.0 - only change is die core to 55nm - Find out when it come out from July 2008 to see if it either DX10 or 10.1 cos DX11 wont be ready until from 2009
