** NVIDIA GTX 1070: WANNA PRE-ORDER?**

I was up for buying a 1080 and then doing a full system build around it but the prices were / are just daft. So, I thought to myself, I bought a 970 which was / is great value - I'll get a 1070. Surely the price will be as reasonable and I'll build around that...ouch...

Painful pricing. Wrong price point for these cards and as has been said, big opportunity missed to sell a bucketload of cards. Will look at AMD moving forward.

Shame, sure they are nice cards. My 970 will live on until price gouging / greed is over and prices become more acceptable!

None of the manufacturers can reach the original Nvidia bottom "MSRP" because;

a) They haven't had time to manufacture their own "cheaper" designs.
b) Nvidia's own kit pricing has gone up since the initial announcement.
c) GPU yield rates on the higher OC cards are tiny, and I mean TINY!

I was as surprised as you guys when the final pricing started to come through but it's unavoidable at this time.

Circa £400 for a GTX 980Ti beater? It's still a hell of a bargain in my opinion.

Sorry but your prices are unbelievably over priced, non fe cards should be 330ish at low end to about 360.

Wow just wow....
If you compare our pricing to our competitors then you'll see that we are not the cause.

Did the partners design their own 1080s? I can't see why the 1080 version of most cards is cheaper than the 1080 FE but not for the 1070.
From what I can see, their 1070s are currently based on their 1080 designs. Which I'm sure you can understand, isn't ideal price-wise. I don't think anybody had the time to fully develop two complete ranges of custom cards.

I'm sure that prices will come down as they have time to work to reduce their production costs but, to make matters worse, their component costs have increased since 1080 was launched.

Fair enough, guess I'll have to wait then. Can't justify paying that much personally.
I'm with you there. On a purely price/performance basis these cards are incredible value but still, not as good as Nvidia originally led us to believe.

I'm sure that we'll get there sooner rather than later but early adopters have always had to pay a little extra due to the lack of optimisation time.

So they are re-using the 1080 design, that's a cost saving immediately that has not been passed on to consumers.

R & D for 1070 design would increase the rrp to recoup those costs.

Poor show all round.

But at least this gives team red a good chance of gaining some serious market share.

The 1070 FE cooler is also cheaper than the 1080 FE cooler as it doesn't get the vapor chamber underneath the hood, while the board partners' coolers are the same cost for both cards.
