** NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

You're probably right but wouldn't it be great if hardly any of these 1080's shifted on launch; it might just send a message to nVidia that were fed up of getting fleeced.

That won't happen though so the best we can hope for right now is that AMD pull something amazing out of the bag and price it aggressively.

Personally I'm happy to stick with my 980 Ti as the GTX 1080 is in no way a worthwhile upgrade for me.

Looks like Nvidia win, if these reports are correct. Sold Out

Stupid price. Guess I stick with the 770 a while longer.

Its no use having a go at OCUK staff, if the card sells to anyone, maybe not enthusiasts they do not care. If it does not sell to anyone they/NV will drop the price. All I will say is shop around or do not shop until the price is what you want to pay.

I wish you people would stop whinging about pricing and pointing fingers round at people about their contribution to it.
If you can't afford or can't justify then dont buy. None of us have a god given right to the latest and greatest of anything. They will sell out regardless and that means the pricing is not too expensive. If you own a house, you gonna drop the price because someone tells you it's too high? No. YOu'll get as much as you can for it.
NVidia can charge what they like. If they don't sell at the high prices then the price will come down. If Nvidia can shift the quantities they want to shift at the price they've set then fair play - it's a fair market value.

Theres much bigger issues aroound the world than the price of a 1080 GTX. Move on, don't buy.

:D

Well said, I for one will not buy the FE edition at this price. I'll wait and see what the other versions of the card are like price and performance wise before I dive in.

I mean really worst case scenario if you needed an upgrade would be to run with a second hand 980 TI or something, I am on a 780 TI which is good enough for most things at 1440p.

You are missing the point entirely if you think all the people up in arms (and there are A LOT) over the 1080 price are poor impoverished gamers who can't afford or justify spending that kind of money! Not remotely. You have an interesting qualification for price... if people will buy it, then it's not too expensive?? So by that rational if your local water supply became polluted, it would be OK for supermarkets to start charging £10 for a bottle of water? People would buy it and it would sell out, therefore it couldn't possibly be too expensive could it?! Extreme example, but just because something sells out DOES NOT mean it's not too expensive... it just means people are desperate enough for it to pay!!

Of course the 1080 was going to sell out... it would have done at ANY price because fools and their money are easily parted, not to mention there being ZERO competition for the card. It has nothing to do with it being correctly priced. Nvidia can of course charge whatever they like, and they did just that, knowing full well they'd make back most of their R&D costs in pre-orders alone. It's a win win for them, but to suggest it's the 'correct' and 'fair' price for us the consumer...?

First time in a while that I'm not in the game... I've had 2x 970s, 2x 980s & 2x Titan Xs in the last 18 months... but this generation is just too rapey for me.

The card is a mid-range unit that should be £200-300 but because AMD killed ATi, NVidia are able to charge this horrific mark-up.

Hope I'm not the only one voting with my wallet.

You can't really compare the cost of water (a necessity to live) versus a GPU though.

I get what you're saying but it is a principle of economics, if a product sells at a certain price, and demand outstrips or meets supply, then the price is "appropriate" for them financially.

Of course getting a cheaper GPU for us the consumer is good, and in fact making more of something can give the manufacturer better economies of scale, and cheaper costs/prices accordingly.

Apple do it with their devices, in exactly the same way really, I don't buy Apple products on principle - at least they have competition. AMD have long been behind the curve so Nvidia have room to stretch their legs and make money here.

Yes, but you're only proving my point. It's priced appropriately for NVIDIA... they have no real competition and there is a feverish demand for their latest products, so they can charge the moon and people will pay. Does that make it right, or are they perhaps taking advantage of the climate? From their perspective, they are doing what any savvy business would do, but it doesn't exactly make it 'right', although I guess that depends what your definition of that word is and how much of a capitalist you are!

You see it all the time in a free market though, a company (really any company) may start off with lower prices, in order to attract market share. Once they have it, they will up their prices to improve profits.

The problem isn't Nvidia, they are a company, they are here to make money. The problem is the total lack of competition, they effectively have a Monopoly on the GPU market.

People like us can vote with our wallets and not buy them, but if enough people do they won't be put off with this kind of pricing. I can see them selling hotcakes unfortunately.

It's not a mid range card though is it. It's very much a high end card and everyone knew it would be at least £500 but £630 is taking the biscuit.

I think OCUK should take some responsibility for the price. Their profit surely comes, like anything, from buying it at a trade price from Nvidia. $699 is not the trade price, which is how we are working out the UK cost.

They always put on their extra tax for these products, often higher than others. Their service is amazing though.

The fact that people are raging over this is proving the point that everyone wants one. If you didn't you wouldn't care. Nvidia must be loving it.
Oh and water is a necessity,a gc is not so that point sux.
Put yourself at the helm of such a business -you'd all price the same if you have any intelligence
