Nvidia GTX 970 and Assassin's Creed Unity

So I got my spanking new MSI 970 OC Gaming card with free game (AC Unity) which on Nvidia's own website they state can run on Ultra High 1080p at 40fps.

Uh, no! FRAPS shows around 30fps standing still and 24fps in crowds as the average. I've got settings on Ultra High, 1080p, 60Hz refresh, Texture Quality in Nvidia control panel set to High Quality (rather than the standard 'High') to bring out detail at a distance and Vsync is on. Also am in offline mode, running Windows 7 x64 and the latest 344.65 Nvidia drivers.

I was actually trying to run at 5760x1080 but gave that up quickly when I realised it can't even handle 1080p!

So my question is: help! (No I can't afford another or a 980 or a Titan Z quad SLI). I was hoping to OC in Afterburner to get up to 980 speeds but so far it either crashs soon into the loading screen or runs slower!
So with stock OC which is 1114 MHz core and 1753 MHz mem the game is at 24-30fps. With Afterburner on +221 for both it is the same or a little slower. At +403 core and +546 mem the game crashes (although Heaven benches fine). So is there anything obvious I am missing?

Yeah this is all kinds of awful. Apparently it isn't even coded to use DX11 correctly, totally ignoring it in fact. No wonder Ubisoft stock has plummeted recently. I can't quite fathom how something like this can happen, given that it's clearly a well designed game with a lot of effort having gone in to it. Shame really. I just pray GTA 5 doesn't suffer this fate, not that I have any reason to suspect it will.

I traded in my old 660 and bought this card just so I could play it on max settings. Sadly I think I will have to use high rather than Ultra high. It was bad enough it took a day to download! Are there any 970 owners out there who have tips on the most optimal settings, as in with both in the game and using Afterburner?

Mate if you had done a bit of research you would have known before trading in anything that no matter what gpu you got the game still has major issues, damn i think it even made the bbc news its that bad.

omg mate a day to download? for real? It took 30 mins for me. I would scream if it took me all day.

My 980 sli is only getting just over 60fps. ubi have really messed up yet another game. I think many are losing faith with this company.

The ONLY game it seems worth getting on the deal is Far Cry 4... thank god that's actually turned out to be good! The Crew isn't much to write home about by most accounts I've read.

Mate if you had done a bit of research

The deal was done a week or so before the launch, y'know, when Ubisoft had that media blackout on reviews until the day after launch just so no-one would find out the issues?!

Well, I'm a big AC fan so will wait for a decent patch to fix it all. At least they didn't bring out another Waterworld! And it's nice to know I'm in good company. Was starting to worry I'd done summat wrong ... (yeah, I know, APART from choosing AC in the first place!)

Ahh my bad bud sorry. Look at it this way you got yourself a nice gpu and if they dont ever fix assasins creed........Hey it was free LOL

Nvidia must be kicking thierselves for doing some sort of deal with ubisoft as a promotion for thier card as even EA would have been a better bet at the moment.

The game is running fine for me on a single 970 ? Not sure what I have done different but it rarely drops below 45fps with ultra settings @ 1440p. I did find using a bordeless window and FXAA helped.

FXAA is broken so its basically like running no AA , borderless does help or alt+tabbing in and out when you have some crazy stutters.

The 1.2.0 patch for me causes worse stutter.

Can't really say I have had any crazy stutters tbh. I get a bit of slowdown occasionally but nothing that really makes it unplayable. I put afterburner on to check the fps as usually I don't bother and I'm always seeing over 40Fps which is fine for me at 1440p.

I'm actually enjoying the game as well I must be at least 3/4 done now and it's a lot better than I was expecting after all the reviews.

Aha! Borderless window! Thank-you. That did the trick. Now it's averaging 5 fps more so 29-40 fps rather than 24-35 and that's with TXAA. Makes the game playable rather than painful. Thank-you MOOG.

Well I really really really do not understand why you support Ubisoft, this game was released broken, funny enough it is broken on closed hardware such as consoles (and you really have to put an effort to achieve this).

On top of that it is a full retail price even for digital download PLUS microtransactions... it is ok liking a game and franchise but...

Have you played it on PC ?

I have just finished it without any major game changing bugs.
