Nvidia GTX465 preview with benchmarks from xbitlabs

I know Nvidia's yields suck and they want to claw money back but, surely they could sell more at a lower cost. Then again that makes you wonder just how many they have, if its like the gt200b in the last 6 months, price them out of any chance of selling in large numbers, to hide the very low supply.

Lets be honest though, high end isn't where its won or lost, their GF104 pricing will be interesting, I just can't see it being anywhere near 5770 levels, their value midrange card needs to be as cheap as AMD's offering, though their low end will likely, like AMD keep same amount of relative shader power as the previous gen so its likely to be only marginally bigger than their 40nm low end parts, if they've screwed that up and they cost too much, they'll lose a lot of sales.

Direct conversion from $279 according to xe.com comes out at nearly £193, but we all know it won't be around this when it gets on sale in the UK, if nvidia priced the card right (below 5850) then it could be a good mid range seller but I don't think it will do too well if it comes out as much or more expensive than 5850 models judging from the early xbitlabs testing.

I was considering this card as a replacement of my 8800gtx possibly, and will wait to see what the price will be, otherwise the choice seems to be 5850 - because I want to make a worthwhile upgrade for the right money - the 8800gtx cost me £300 from another store in september 2007 and I am not very keen on spending that amount of money for something that might fail a couple of years later with only oven cooking to maybe give it a little more life (not putting that heap of junk in my oven a 2nd time lol).

I do still game on my 19" at 1280x1024 but would prefer to allow scope to upgrade to a 24" in future.

Aye i wasn't expecting it to be that far ahead of the 5830. Have to wait for some more reviews tomorrow (i assume that's when NDA lifts on the big sites) but those results look surprisingly good.

cheers for the link stulid. Interesting stuff.

If you look on page 24 it looks like they did a power consumption test.

From what I gather it's 26.91W idle and 197.61W load for the card draw - which is similar to but under a GTX 470 I believe. Quite a power/heat hog for what it is?
