Nvidia GTX660Ti

Unless your looking specifically for nvidia (and thats fine) any of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=56&subid=1673

Are much better cards for £240, if not, i would still spend that bit more on the GTX 670 because of the GTX 660ti's miserable 24 ROP's and 192Bit memory bus which is throttling the bejeebers out of its own GPU, it struggles with AA and all that sort of eye chocolate.

A lot of people on here say the 670 is better value so might be worth getting one of them but as far as I can tell my msi 660ti is enough for any game at 1080p max settings 60fps.

You can't really generalise like that. It is a card which is bad value for money but what is important is to compare the settings to which it was intended to run an that isn't supersampling and MSAA 4/8x.

At the settings at which it will realistically be bought for it performs better than a 7870 like for like and depending on the overclock/game faster than a 7950. It drops off when the resolution is cranked up and AA is applied but poor FPS is still poor FPS even when one is slightly higher than the other and if you compare out the box (for arguments sake) most of the cards around that price point struggle with the mentioned settings.

The problem with your generalisation is that it isn't correct upon inspection. I agree with the point of your post about getting more for your money and I would go as far as saying that the 660Ti is terrible value for money.

The 7950 matches the GTX 670 and beats the GTX 660ti convincingly http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/08/23/galaxy_gtx_660_ti_gc_oc_vs_670_hd_7950/3

Its the same deal here http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/geforce-gtx-660-ti-benchmark-review,review-32505-17.html even the 7870 beats it.

The GTX 660ti is a little faster than the 7870 if you don't use AA and all that, like i said.

Sorry. but i don't spend more money on a card to avoid some game settings, No! with my £200 card i set my game settings to max default and away i go, job done everything runs and looks great.

Your card does not get what I would call decent FPS on full ultra so my point still stands. If you want to play with poor FPS then fine but most would lower settings.

As I said your links are useless because mid range cards aren't supposed to run super sampling and 4x MSAA.

It shows it handles it better but rubbish FPS is still rubbish FPS

Oh... you know it does :p http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18437182

I get 40 to 90 FPS in any Multiplayer BF3 map on Ultra preset @ 1920 x 1080P

No information on how your results were obtained. As they're so out of sync with any other MP data on your card which I've seen I would say that your benchmarks weren't intensive enough.

Edit: actually your results are single player, no? Multiplayer causes a large hit.

So your calling me bull.... what data is that? and what makes you think the GTX 660ti will do much better in Multiplayer?

[Edit] Not that bigger hit, if the hit was 10 FPS (which is a lot) i'm still averaging 55 FPS, how much of a hit do you suppose it is?

No. I'm saying your benchmark isn't representative.

Average of under 60 FPS = not good. That means low minimum's. You should turn MSAA off (or down) and you'll run a lot smoother.

This is what the card is aimed at really. Providing decent FPS at just under maximum settings. Which brings me back to my original point regarding the 660Ti. At the settings it's aimed at it is faster than the 7870.

Anyway, it doesn't make it any better value for money. It's a poor card in that respect so I don't know why you deem it necessary to argue every point against the 7870.

I'm saying that the AMD cards are better offerings, what's the issue?

Avg 55 FPS on a 60Hz monitor is not any less smother than 550 FPS, nor do i see it if i turn MSAA off.

Your over-blowing its importance now.

Minimums... Always minimums.

Minimums on my card is about 2 FPS less than the GTX 660ti at the same clocks, the 7950 is higher than the GTX 660ti, even then Minimum FPS are a short sharp dip that you don't even notice. just like on all cards.

What maters is what your FPS are where you do notice it.

You... can't... compare the same clocks. They're different GPU's. Urgh. I've pointed this out about four times to you now.

You've (and I guess myself by keep responding to you :() taken this thread off topic now with your 7870 waffle. To summarise:

1) The 7870 is a nice card at its price point
2) It is faster at higher resolutions and settings
3) However the performance is rubbish on both cards at these settings just one is slightly better than the other
4) The 660Ti is overpriced

We can discuss in trust if you want to go further mate. But you should be careful when generalising because there'll always be buggers like me pointing out the flaws in generalising :D.

You pointing out flaws in my reasoning are defunct. i'm getting perfectly good FPS at maxed settings, you simply disagree about my FPS or that they are good.

I use the damn thing, i don't feel the need to turn AA off, its nice with it on.

My 660ti msi gets a minimum of 50 frames when playing battlefield 3 online max settings 1080p 4msaa and multi sampling and vsync enabled.

Theres seems some very mixed reviews about this card with some reviewers saying it can't handle 4x aa and others saying it can easily do it so guess it just what you think is playable.

But as far as I am concerned for the games I play it can do them perfectly well at max settings 1080p at a very smooth frame rate.

Also I just moved over from consoles which runs the games at 30fps 720p so to me any of these cards graphics are mind blowing ;)

That's what I've noticed. It just seems like there's a wider range of results than per usual; some reviews have it struggling against a 7870, while some giving the 7950 more than a run for its money (even nipping the heels of a 7970).

Throughout our in-game testing some interesting performance discrepancies were noticed. Some of these focused upon the ASUS GTX 660 Ti TOP which had the highest on-paper boost clocks but failed to consistently beat Gigabyte’s offering and at times even struggled to stay ahead of the MSI Power Edition. We also noticed that as we progressed through our four benchmark runs of each game, the EVGA GTX 660 Ti SC and NVIDIA’s reference card both showed slightly lower framerates from one repetition to the next. Granted, ASUS’ card still came out as the overall performance winner once the dust settled and EVGA’s provided more than adequate performance but we were left wondering: what was going on?

In our investigation the primary focus was upon each card’s clock speeds being the culprit and those assumptions bore fruit in short order. According to our findings, the ASUS TOP seemed to be unable to consistently hit the upper ranges of its Boost frequencies. Instead, it tended to fluctuate up and down quite a bit, with a few peaks that thrust up into extremely high clock speed ranges. Comparing and contrasting these results to those from MSI, Gigabyte and Galaxy cards puts things into stark contrast since these other products hit a mark and stay there throughout the benchmark, sometimes resulting in higher performance.

The two reference-based cards also showed an interesting side of their personas as their clock speeds gradually decreased throughout the test, resulting in the aforementioned performance drop-off up until their fans increased speed a bit. Now, the difference between maximum frequencies and where these cards end up after a few minutes is infinitesimal in the grand scheme of things and an end user will never notice anything but on paper at least, you’ll be losing a few frames per second here and there.

Within Batman, our results for the ASUS card were actually well in line with expectations as it provided class-leading framerates regardless of its constant clock speed dance. However, once again the EVGA SC and reference clocked cards exhibit a tendency to step back their clock speeds but this time it looks like the Power Limit is stepping in as well. However, be it TDP, Power Limit, temperatures or some combination thereof, we are seeing a general downgrading of Boost values over the course of our benchmark.

This brings whole exercise could bring up some worrying points about benchmarking NVIDIA’s Kepler-based cards in reviews (and charts) where every single FPS counts. Sites benchmarking with a single run or shorter sequences will likely achieve the “best” results rather than realistic performance. Luckily, we have been able to avoid this issue by using four run-throughs of every benchmark, each with somewhat long testing times. We’ll have a full article looking at GeForce Boost and AMD’s equivalent in the coming weeks but for the time being, this is certainly food for thought.
