Hi I know this card is getting on a bit now and will look to upgrade in the next couple of months but I've noticed when playing certain games, for example, Doom, Mass effect Andromeda etc after about ten minutes into the game the following message appears, the application has been blocked from accessing the graphics hardware and it shuts down. Can anybody offer any advice, what may be causing this?

Check your VRAM usage. You will find 3GB are getting overflowed.
Lower AA or turn it off to boot. And if still is issue, start lowering the settings.

Ok thank you just giving the card a clean at the moment but I'll try this maybe playing games at 2k is just too much for this card now, can't wait to get a GTX1080

Just played Mass effect Andromeda switched of AA, turned settings down to medium, put fan speed up to maximum, voltage increased too 2253, temperature increased to 71 degrees at this point the game crashed again?

I had similar issues with my ichill 780gtx a little under clock improved things no end , about 50mhz should do it .

Can you test it in another pc? If you have a spare hdd perhaps try running a fresh install of a different version of windows and try the games again.

Unfortunately only have the one computer it's ok with some games such as Team fortress two and other not too intensive games, but I think the card must be on its way out, shame as I've just purchased a new monitor I'll look to get a GTX1080 once some good deals come along unless I get a 980ti?

That doesn't usually cause crashing unless the game engine plain can't handle larger VRAM loads - with my 780 it would just cause noticeable moments of slowdown or stutter when entering new areas, etc. due to the amount of paging from system RAM. Or if it was really bad the framerate would drop to like 20fps.

Slightly off topic but I've currently got 8GB DDR3 Ram is this enough for gaming at 2K 144HZ or do you think I may need to get 16GB?

Having run stress tests etc I don't think there is a problem with the card looking at the error message which I quoted. Have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers etc, but reading up on this it doesn't seem like there's an easy and straightforward solution, just have to keep trying different options.

Also consider your PSU. In the past i had the same issue, tried everything under the moon until i borrowed a PSU from a friend and tested it. While gaming your pc draws more power then usual and it might make you crash if the PSU is getting dodgy.

I know looking at the possible causes it can be anything from your motherboard, Ram, CPU and other than people reinstalling the drivers I haven't found anyone yet who has solved this my PSU is 750w so more than enough, I think I'll have to bite the bullet at some stage and get a new GPU but will be annoyed if the problem still persists?

If you are on windows 10 and have an intel cpu with vt-d enabled, try disabling vt-d in the bios.
