Has anyone got VDPAU working? I don't have a compatible GPU at the moment but ill certainly shell out on a cheap 8400gs if this is as good as it sounds.. Looks like we can have hardware 1080p h264 and VC1 decode on linux after all!!

It appears an mplayer patch exists which works with this and it works with MKV's

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm interested in this for my integrated nVidia 6150/430+ MCP. :D

Can you link to the hardware compatibility list?

This tells me...

Desktop GPUs:
GeForce 200 Series
GeForce 9 Series
GeForce 86xx Series
GeForce 85xx Series
GeForce 84xx Series
GeForce 8800 GTS 512
GeForce 8800 GT
GeForce 8800 GS

Mobile GPUs:
GeForce 98xxM
GeForce 9700M
GeForce 96xxM
GeForce 9500M
GeForce 9300M
GeForce 9200M
GeForce 8800M
GeForce 8800M GTS
GeForce 8800M GTX
GeForce 8600M

Motherboard GPUs:
GeForce 9400
GeForce 9300
GeForce 9100
GeForce 8300
GeForce 8200

Gutting as i have a 6150 integrated too. Its only a media center pc so I havent needed anything fancy

A post on Ununtuforums shows a claim of <5% Cpu @1080p h264 so this could have massive implications for HD on Linux

got my card today - working lovely.. was easy to do and got 1080p video working using MKV's under both VC1 and h264.. CPU usage is at 1% most of the time and I havent seen it over 4%

Big thanks to Nvidia for this

Got any links/info on the mplayer patch? Would like to try it out my GTX260

EDIT just found it in the arch repos, will give it a spin this weekend thanks :)
