NVIDIA Highlights DirectX 12 Strengths Over AMD

Mantle is mentioned in the slides in fairness...

True.

I would be interested to see where Nvidia got their figures from, only 40% of DX11 GPU's?

I know there are still a few HD 5/6### series GPU's around but surely they don't make up 60% of the market. GCN GPU's have been around for two and a half years.

It seems like Microsoft and NVidia have been busy working behind the scenes on DirectX12 for a while to the extent that several generations of NVidia cards are already compatible, I'm starting to wonder if AMD Mantle was more of a pre-emptive move by AMD rather than the 'getting the ball rolling on low level API's' that they claim.

XBOne APU says otherwise.

The thing is, AMD say they have been working with MS on DX since 1995.

They both work with MS on new versions of DX, both can say that they do, or have done since the start, or since when....

Its all just PR.

I mean get this, DX12 is developed for the XB1, which is an AMD system, you don't think AMD have been working with MS? it stands to reason they have.
They don't need to say it, unless they need a new PR camping.

"NVIDIA Highlights DirectX 12 Strengths Over AMD "?

All I was getting from the slide was that Nvidia making lots of noise over nothing.

Dx12 is launched at around end of 2015 right? How many people will still be using HD5000 or HD6000 series (non-GCN) by then and still not upgraded? And it would probably take another 6 months to one years for the dx12 games to start to roll out...

How will DX12 help Xbox One though? it should already have an API similar to DX12/Mantle, low level programming is the reason why consoles have always performed respectably compared to far more powerful PC's.

I can't really say what relationships they have but Microsoft got badly burned by having an Nvidia GPU in the original Xbox (cost-wise), Sony similarly with PS3. AMD are cheap by comparison especially with their combined APU's. I think Microsoft/Sony both choosing AMD for their console was financially motivated nothing else.

They also have what Nvidia can't provide, an x86_64 CPU + GPU all in one system. ^^^

How so? consoles have had low level API's since the dawn of time.

Microsoft saying that DX12 will boost Xbox One performance massively is probably just marketing.

But anything Nvidia say is not just Marketing.

DX12 is for the XB1 ported to PC, the XB1 is an AMD system, DX12 is for AMD.

Nvidia are making a lot of noise, but what of it is anything at all?

Its damage control PR. ;)

This is a pretty strong statement to be making, and I doubt you have the relevant sources to back it up. Nvidia does help with DX development too you know?

Yes of course Nvidia do, but you missed out most of what i said, DX12 is primarily for the XB1, which is an AMS system. :)

TSMC did build new equipment to deal with the demand for 20nm and they should be up and running by now (was touted for Q1 of 2104). 20nm isn't as far away as people think.

Good lord people. Can we not just have 1 Mantle thread and 1 DX12 thread? and use the driver threads for drivers. The section seems to just be getting spammed up.

Edit: Also Maxwell thread for Maxwell stuff. Come on people.

The DX12 thread is full of Mantle, Mantle, Mantle and felt this deserved its own thread as it shows what GPU's are DX12 ready or not.

Because their api for Xbox1 is hopelessly broken......Devs are saying so; *friends who are devs of mine are saying so* Dev here confirmed that also.

DX12 is to fix that api first and foremost that's why Xbox1 will see it first...

My entirely well reasoned and thought out (and might I add very adult) response to your post is:

"but they started it!" :D
