Nvidia January GeForce event. 3080 Ti? RTX 3060?

This would pretty much be identical to a 3090 in almost every situation surely, making the 3090 essentially redundant. The difference in bandwidth would be unlikely to translate in to huge performance differences...
Except you have a chance of buying a 3090 before next Xmas.:D

Honestly who gives a **** about the 3080Ti?

  1. Unlikely stock will meet demand anytime before Q2/Q3 2021.
  2. Current 3080 owners need not worry. The extra 20GB VRAM is not going to offer any advantage and by the time it does we'll all be discussing which 5080's to buy.

cyberpunk just about uses 10gb of vram. based on that new games are going to top 10gb..that 20gb is going to be needed.
By the time its needed you will need to be turning down setting anyway to hit 60fps.

Buy a 3080 10gb instead and save the cash difference then sell the 3080 in 18 months and the money from this + what you saved by not buying the ti would pay for a 4080.

What hardware/software was that using? Was this allocated or actual used VRAM?
Half life Alex using steam and fpsvr to monitor FPS and ram usage. It said 16gb/24gb so I assume actual usage. Native Res on quest 2 is higher than 4k because of the distortion adjust ment.

It will be allocated then. I've still got that to play on my Rift. I hope it's not that hungry.

MSI afterburner says otherwise. also i never said full 20gigs is needed. i said 10gb is not enough.. and its not enough.

I have seen 16gb vram usage when using vr at native resolution on a quest 2. So for vr at least 10gb is no where near enough.

Nvidia should have engineers who know how much memory is being used currently by the apps and have some forecast models to engineer normal VRAM quantities on their cards.
Today, their work looks like guesses which 90% of the time are wrong:

RTX 3060 - 12 GB - wrong - too much
RTX 3080 - 10 GB - wrong - too little
RTX 3090 - 24 GB - wrong - too much

I think RTX 3090 should have 16-18 GB.
RTX 3080 12-14 GB
RTX 3070 10 GB
RTX 3060 8 GB
RTX 3050 6 GB
etc
