NVIDIA Live Stream Special Event!

When are these cards available ?

27th May.

Forum posters don't often talk about R&D costs but worth noting that R&D of Pascal has been BILLIONS of dollars. Cant remember now if it was $7 billion or $14 billion.

Not sure how AMD can match that and definately won't anytime soon IMO.

I was expecting a big jump as I mentioned in a post a few days ago. But if the claims are true, that's more than I was expecting still.

That's a shed load of money, I reckon these cards are going to be milked for a couple of years at least to recoup the outlay.

Why not? The bigger the investment the longer a product can often be competitive in the market too.

I do wonder about the claims (or viewers interpretation) a little as on one of the slides it didn't look twice as high as it should be but I didn't see the vertical axis label but we'll see soon enough. And also initially compared it to faster than 980 Sli (non Ti) so if twice as fast as a Titan x that would also make it faster than Titan x Sli (especially with the scalability of sli).

Darren, no issue at all, it makes absolute sense. You do not invest that sort of cash for a short term return.

Do we know how much Nvidia invested in Maxwell for comparison purposes?

We need proper reviews rather than the Nvidia slides.

I imagine you like this kaaps when you heard that news. lol.

Is that including previous uarch's, non uarch infrastructure/tech (nvlink/compute boxes etc) foundry r&d and other non-direct r&d expenditure. Technically those could count too depending what you are describing and is unlikely to be the base pascal architecure.

No idea :). It was mentioned along with the development of Pascal taking two years, so I assume that's the cost of developing Pascal and any related technologies required to support it during that time, if that makes sense.

To clarify he just states "several billion dollars" so not 7 or 14 billion as I suggested. Entire presentation in on youtube now if anyone is interested. Also 7000 working on the project for more than 2 years.
Never watch one of these before and must say it was good, even if the stats were a bit misleading or confusing at 2:15 am in the morning :)

Why spend so much money on something that is just a stop-gap to Volta?

Unless they were able to bung enough Volta tech on a Maxwell base (bit like trying to get a dominos pizza under £20 with as many toppings as poss).

Not buying the 2x titan x claims until proven. If it's true then I'll jump at one (two) and not wait for the Ti.

Interesting to see in the 1080 video they ran with the specs near the end that it will support DP1.4. My daughter can have my Titan X, daddy's going 1080 sli

Here is the wiki blurb for 1.4:

DisplayPort version 1.4 was published March 1, 2016.[20] No new transmission modes are defined, so HBR3 (32.4 Gbit/s) as introduced in version 1.3 still remains as the highest available mode. DisplayPort 1.4 adds support for Display Stream Compression 1.2 (DSC), Forward Error Correction, HDR extension defined in CTA-861.3, the Rec. 2020 color space, and extends the maximum number of inline audio channels to 32.[21]

DSC is a "visually lossless" encoding technique with up to 3:1 compression ratio.[20] Using DSC with HBR3 transmission rates, DisplayPort 1.4 can support 8K UHD (7680×4320) at 60 Hz with 10-bit color and HDR, or 4K UHD (3840×2160) at 120 Hz with 10-bit color and HDR. 4K at 60 Hz with 10-bit color and HDR can be achieved without the need for DSC. On displays which do not support DSC, the maximum limits are unchanged from DisplayPort 1.3 (4K 120 Hz, 5K 60 Hz, 8K 30 Hz).

Just watched the rest of it, the 1070 faster than TX for $379, loads said it wasn't going to happen, 1070 will fly out the door, if AMD can't match and surpass that with a strong product/feature set by June, it'll be worrying times ahead imo.

The 'Founders Edition' a new section we didn't need, Nv will pull it off though.:D

They only claimed that in specific VR scenarios.

I'm sure their more ardent (and underage) fans are already spreading this FUD throughout youtube and social media.

Is 'twice the performance of TX' the new 'overclockers dream'?:D

On closing waving the 1080 in the air, after the above vid Jsen made it abundantly clear 3 or 4 times claiming it has twice the performance of TX, that's a ballpark claim with no mention of VR in sight.

If an AMD tech guy can add 'overclockers dream' quip in and it get's slaughtered, Jsen better be right, this place will be hell!

So 379 dollars in pounds is 262, but we wont see that in uk will we cos of shipping (why not make em in uk???) and then tax... :(

We need to move to a place where they make em so theres no international shipping wacked on the price and no or little tax lol.

So im guessing ocuk probably will sell em for 330-339 (a price hike from american price of about £70 ish) in the end for some reason the 1070 i mean not the 1080. If it was more like 250 then i might have started saving up for one but meh not 300+ think ill stick with my trusted 670 for a bit longer, not like i really need more fps or anything. But i wouldnt have minded a new shiny thing to go in my pc. :)
